With Tana & ccoa long gone, we lack any expert hands demonstrating how to pixel better beyond the unfortunately much repeated "Here's my incredible work, there's a trick to making it less difficult, I'll tell you how I did it some day, whoops I forgot oh nevermind."
We appreciate the experts and their ever-inbound offerings to the extent of frothing at the mouth in anticipation, but are unfortunately left, well, frothing at the mouth. Eventually we just look rabid.
Anyone who can offer insights into the work of experts would be greatly appreciated by all the would be pixel artists.
A long, long, long time ago, Showkaiser had a signature advertising a texturing tutorial that never eventuated. And then there was mention of how to know what palette colors to pick - hopefully on how to go beyond the basic ramps into how to unify tiles, etc. His work & color selection is beautiful, and now that there's a wide range of artists wanting to draw work that would match his style, any pixelling tutorials or instructions on how to match his style by anyone with a clue would be very welcome.
Also very welcome would be the something akin to the guide Venetia mentioned long ago, on how she created the fantastic 'scaly' texture on her dinosaur/mount. She mentioned it was easier than it looked with a certain trick, but no hints on what.
Given how busy they are, I am not asking this of them - but if anyone else out there with a clue, people will love you for sharing it.
And please, pretty please, if you do make a pixel art tutorial, please note that there are many tutorials out there already on terminology, lines, anti-aliasing, dithering, selective outlining and on grass tiles. While of course more of these do not hurt and are welcome to the newbie, there are many of us who are past that stage, and struggling with the bigger (if only ever so slightly) mysteries of the art.
If I have missed relevant revelations on the matter that may have been made in recent times, thread/post links are welcome!
