Request Tutorials Here!

As I said before, how about a tutorial about spriting various poses on the rtp sprites? For example, an attack pose (sword or whatnot in the sprite's hands), a hit pose (blood or something), a casting pose (arms raised at a 90 degree angle from the body, as if he is casting a spell), an idle pose (blinking or breathing). Even if it was done on Arshes, I could greatly benefit from just looking at the sprite and trying it myself.

Thanks in advance...

PS: I am not referring to side-view battle systems, no battlers, just your typical 4 by 4 character graphics.

Well I am a N00B at rpgmakerVX.

I was wondering if there was any tutorials on making quests?

thank you

What do you mean by "making quests"? I've seen SO MANY PEOPLE ask the same thing and I have absolutely no idea what they mean. Please provide specifics.

What they meen by quests are like missions. Such as, a guy walks up to you and asks:
"Can you get a sword from the chest on the top of that mountain for me? I'll give you a spell" Or something like that, then it'll teleport you (or you have to walk) to the next map, and there you have to walk up the mountain, get the sword, etc.

Hope this helps you fffrrggwwwwwtttttt.

Now for my question. I've been having trouble with switches, but that's not the main problem. The problem is, scripts. Now I may not know how to make good scripts, let alone good ones, and I'm not that great at installing them (if it's a simple special view script It's easy to install (Well, things with VX are harder when installing, all these different sections, no help...etc.)...
 Wow, I think this is too much detail!
To make a long story short, I wont need switches that much if I get custom made scripts working in my game (I don't make them, I only try out people's incomplete/completed demos.) to test and use them, but the only script I could get working for VX was a special view script...

For example:
One script I'm looking to get is the Lockpick script made by Eilei. Only, I can't get the demo to work.
So...I'm stuck.

Looking back at what I wrote...I better end this comment soon! Any bigger and it'll become the all mighty and powerful CommentZilla!

this is wrong. i guarantee that once you are familiar with switches and variables you will realize that you don't need scripts for narly as much as you think

I was wondering if there are any tutorials for makeing a dating sim in RPG maker

I know you can make a dating sim because I've seen it done before :thumb:

I need to know how to open a game that I downloaded from this site, could someone help me?
If it's a .rar file, you'll need WinRAR.  That's a Google search for it.  I got a trial version when I downloaded it, but I think you can get older versions for free.  .rar files compress data so it's faster to upload and download, but they're annoying because you need WinRAR to access them.

Im very much a noob at rpgmakerxp. I was wondering if someone could teach me the basics of spriting characters. (like what program to use, how to make the colors blend, or maybe how to just make the character look like the custom ones...)

Thankyou!

With Tana & ccoa long gone, we lack any expert hands demonstrating how to pixel better beyond the unfortunately much repeated "Here's my incredible work, there's a trick to making it less difficult, I'll tell you how I did it some day, whoops I forgot oh nevermind."

We appreciate the experts and their ever-inbound offerings to the extent of frothing at the mouth in anticipation, but are unfortunately left, well, frothing at the mouth. Eventually we just look rabid.

Anyone who can offer insights into the work of experts would be greatly appreciated by all the would be pixel artists.

A long, long, long time ago, Showkaiser had a signature advertising a texturing tutorial that never eventuated. And then there was mention of how to know what palette colors to pick - hopefully on how to go beyond the basic ramps into how to unify tiles, etc. His work & color selection is beautiful, and now that there's a wide range of artists wanting to draw work that would match his style, any pixelling tutorials or instructions on how to match his style by anyone with a clue would be very welcome.

Also very welcome would be the something akin to the guide Venetia mentioned long ago, on how she created the fantastic 'scaly' texture on her dinosaur/mount. She mentioned it was easier than it looked with a certain trick, but no hints on what.

Given how busy they are, I am not asking this of them - but if anyone else out there with a clue, people will love you for sharing it.

And please, pretty please, if you do make a pixel art tutorial, please note that there are many tutorials out there already on terminology, lines, anti-aliasing, dithering, selective outlining and on grass tiles. While of course more of these do not hurt and are welcome to the newbie, there are many of us who are past that stage, and struggling with the bigger (if only ever so slightly) mysteries of the art.

If I have missed relevant revelations on the matter that may have been made in recent times, thread/post links are welcome!

I have read AJ's tutorial but i cant get it to work, And I did try out the demo but I would want a demo that I can open in RMXP and see exactly how it works.

/ GnB    That would be really nice.

PS: Admin, i this is in wrong forum or a bad request then please delete this topic or move it.

Right on Scriblette. As the tutorial section is REALLY suffering these few weeks, I hope someone, somewhere out there in the community cares enough about our trivial souls.

We really could use some graphic tutorials.  Most of the recent tutorials have been mine, and I am certainly not in a position to be telling other people how to make graphics.  This entire forum has slowed down now that it's a sub-forum, so I'm wondering whether or not the move was a good idea.

ahahhaha what LACK EXPERT HANDS? venetia and I (counting in terms of staff at least) are far better pixel artists than they were during their time here.

ccoa and tana were both very bad at pixel art during their times here. they may have improved since then, but they both pixeled as though they were painting, resulting in a lot of randomly placed pixels and a huge amount of unnecessary colors. for an example just try working on a pixel level with tana's famous horse sprite.

it just annoys me whenever people mention her as this great spriter. she is a FANTASTIC ARTIST, don't get me wrong, i'm not insulting her. just some of her techniques didn't apply to well in the field of pixel art.

i might make a tutorial on spriting just to show people proper techniques. a LOT of tutorials out there set incredibly bad examples. and when you're just beginning, it's incredibly easy to fall into other peoples' bad habits

Read my post again. ^_^ Despain, right?

If I wanted to talk about expert hands full stop, I'd just point at Showkaiser. :)

What I said, though, was that we lack expert hands that DEMONSTRATE. I do not capitalize to shout, just to clarify.

I didn't say expert at spriting - an expert at art who offers tips is better than no expert at all. They were good at whatever they did. Both posted little tutorials to help people. (Some of Tana's work was especially good, you might've missed that period - the cave walls I loved.)

Anyway, we no longer get dedicated 'pixel art' tutorials. Since my posting (not because of it, I'm sure) I've noticed Venetia and Showkaiser offering assistance in posts, which is wonderful. It's been specific to being constructive advice in threads, though - Venetia has mentioned turning those tips into tutorials for the HKCP.

If you're looking to make tutorials on spriting, that would be super, and I'm sure many many people would appreciate it. As I said, though...

"We appreciate the experts and their ever-inbound offerings to the extent of frothing at the mouth in anticipation, but are unfortunately left, well, frothing at the mouth. Eventually we just look rabid."

Don't leave us rabid. ^_^

And if you could be so kind as to go slightly BEYOND the very basics, for which there are many tutorials out there (on spriteart via google, pixeljoint, etc), it'd be much more useful. Especially if it was on something like the scales Venetia did.

Well in terms of pixel art and spriting, serious critique is usually a lot more helpful than tutorials. the absolute best tutorial for a beginning pixel artist would have three steps: 1. make something. 2. ask for critique. 3. listen to critique

tutorials can only get you so far. art is a lot different than something like rpg maker, where you can show how things work. you can use tutorials to show techniques (like you said, anti-aliasing, selout, etc), but you can't use a tutorial to show someone how to be a good artist
