Event Trivia - Regi is the winner

Hello there and welcome to Event Trivia.

Signups are now [CLOSED] and the trivia has [ENDED]
I thank the 13 participants for joining up in my event.
I congratulate Regi for winning the trivia. I have left the rules in tact for newcomers wanting to see how such a trivia works.

I order to spout some activity into this forum I am doing an Event Trivia again. (I did one 3 years ago)
It is a point based forum game where the participants with the least amount of points at each round will be removed.
The rules might vary a bit with two organizer instead of one.
My goal with this topic is to spread knowledge about events in a fun and challenging way.
My events will be from RPG Maker XP. Most of these will be easy to implement in another version.
There might be a few which cannot be implemented in the same way on other versions.
I will not check the validity of the events on other versions.

To illustrate the heart of the questions there is hardly anything better than an example:
Example":2yyktqw9 said:
A standard event has the event commands
Example.gif

You don't have to consider how it is triggered.
What does this event do?
Assuming Switch 1 is on: What is the output of the event?
How many outcomes does this event have?

Answer the questions separately.
3 points
You don't have to answer the the questions, it's just to give you a feel.
The example does not show the general level of difficulty.

Rules
Be sure to answer the events within 72 hours starting from the time the events are posted.
Be also sure to read the rules, and remember to PM me (Zeriab) with your answer.
If you have questions post them instead in the Event Trivia.
Posting your answer in the topic itself will lead to disqualification.

Points
When you give an answer you are awarded a number of points as given in the problem.
For every detail you miss you loose a point.
If you don't provide an answer then get the lowest score possible.

Let's say you have a 3 points problem, miss one detail and part of another, then you are awarded 1.5 points.
If you miss four details then you are awarded -1 points. In other words you loose 1 point.
If you don't answer at all you get -3.
Note that you will always loose more points by not answering than giving a completely faulty answer.
Note that you can increase your score by exceptional answers although never above the max. (The max of a 3 points problem is 3 points).

Tip: Read the whole event and do what is requested.

Oh my. I got way more responses than I had anticipated :cute:
This is a knock-out tournament so 13 people rather than 10 people just means my creativity is challenged a bit more. The 10 places was for show and because without a certain number of participants this kind of knock-out trivia is very short and not as fun.
I have locked the signups so no more people can join. I will post the first problem some time tomorrow (The 22nd of May GMT). You will have 72 to send your answer to me after that.

*hugs*

I am glad you look forward to it ^_^
When I think about it a bit more I think I make it focused on points rather than knock-outs. That way all participants get a chance with all problems. No guarantee of no knock-outs, but no guarantee of knock-outs either.
All I promise is a number of events (at least 10).

*hugs*

Awww, I looked at my calender last night and saw it was the 21st. I was so looking forward to this today. But I guess it was after midnight when I looked at the calender. :(

Knockouts, points, some combination, whatever. If I can put my years of random eventing stuff to use, it's all good. Can we have a just-for-fun challenge today? Please?

Probably not. Oh well. Back to RGSS/RGSS2 scripts, then.
I'll be here early tommorow, though.

It's great news that you are excited about this event. It means that I have done something right.
As for the just-for-fun challenge you can do the example question now that I have fixed the link.

The question for me now is whether I should start easy on you or not.

Question 1: It sets up two possabilities as to what can happen when you talk to a NPC/hit an object/ect.

Question 2: What do you mean "output"?

Question 3: Two, obviously. At the moment anyway. Theoreticly it could have a sting of variables/switches later that could make the possabilities nea endless.

I personally don't care if you start easy or just dive in. But please, a little more challenging than your example? ;)

 Shadow, you would have just been disqualified!

Some people just don't read the rules, do they? Oh, and you forgot to mention that he would have missed points too. Anyway, I look forward to the first challenge.

Since it was the example which doesn't count Shadow is not disqualified.
Shadow's post is not all bad because it illustrates certain points:
  • Do not post your answer in this topic or you will be disqualified and kicked out of the trivia. (Your post will be edited to remove your answer regardless of its correctness)
  • There are unfortunately not possibility to ask questions, not even clarifying questions.
  • Clarifying questions may be answered after the deadline.

Whenever I talk about what the "output" of an event is I mean what will be shown in the message box(es).
I will display the scoring and possible also supply comments.

You would have gotten -1 point for Question 2.
For question one you shouldn't really have considered the context, but it's not wrong since I made it optional. (You should preferable just have considered what happened when it was triggered in some arbitrary way)
In other words you would have recieved 2 points.

I will always include my grading and I may include the answers given in the status message.
For example I received the following answer to the example problem from theory:

theory":1u2w3bpy said:
1. This event checks the status of Switch 1, and displays a message window declaring the current status of said switch.
2. A message window containing "Switch 1 is on!"
3. Still assuming switch 1 is on? Only one. Otherwise, there would be two.
This an excellent answer which would have granted 3 points.
Notice the nice answer to question 3. The 3rd question is underspecified since I don't talk about the assumption of the switch and because I don't tell whether its just one iteration or not. (Shadow's answer would likewise be accepted)

I will post the first problem in the next message and don't worry theory, it will be harder than the example. (Not that it says much)

You now have 72 hours to solve this problem: (Starting from time of this post)

EventTrivia - No. 1":13gral5u said:
I have made this Common Event:

What does it do? (brief explanation)
Why is it unsafe? (If you believe there are several reasons, state them all)
4 points

Not answering at all will yield you -3 points.
The last question has a bigger weight than the first question when judging.

I look forward to some good and interesting answers ^_^
DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS IN THIS TOPIC! PM me instead.
