Hi there

In this topic, I introduce my second RPG. Its called Hybris 2nd Awakening.
Since I was too lazy to complete the translation of my first game, Hybris, and I decided to make the second one in English from the begin with, so there won't be any translation work. The people in the German speaking countries will eventually understand English, so there won't be a German translation. But that might not bother you.


Introduction:

Long ago, when mankind discovered a mysterious power called the Eternal Flow. That power was the very source of life.
Mankind started to use that power for its own benefit, not knowing or ignoring that this would weaken the Eternal Flow and so the world was thrown off balance.
To save itself, the Eternal Flow created a being known as the Abyss to eliminate the menace called humanity.
It was a woman called Lilith who stood up against the Abyss and finally was able to seal it away. She made a pact with the Eternal Flow. Mankind would never be any threat to the Eternal Flow again.
After Liliths death, the order of Laranor was established in order to pass on Liliths teachings. The order was named after its founder who was one of Liliths followers.

One thousand years have passed. The Eternal Flow is about to die and so the Abyss will rise once more. Its second awakening draws near.

Story:
The story is about a young man called Yue. He ran away from home together with his girlfriend Melody. Yue is the son of the mayor of a village called Tuku. His father wanted him to marry an aristocrate girl from the capital. But Yue loved Melody, a girl who lived in the same village. Melodys famaly was not rich at all, and so her parents had to sell her. To escape their destinies, the ran away from home hoping there would be a better future elsewhere.
Unfortunately, they were attacked by wolves in the forest and the story came to a sad end.
Or not?

Yue wakes up in a strange laboratory. He was somehow rescued and his wounds were healed. He finds out that his saviors are the members of an ominous sect. They call themselves „The Masked“.
They tell him they rescued him because he is one of the few who can hold the holy weapon Tenkei, the scythe Lilith used herself. They hand him over Tenkei so he would be their loyal weapon. Only then they would save the life of his girlfriend Melody.
He has no choice but to do as they say. But what might they be up to?

Emotion System:


During the game you will have to decide what the hero thinks about what happanes.
This will affect his emotions, his future reactions and also his stats.
It will lead to three alternate endings.

Chain System:
You can always make three connected attacks. but you can decide what attacks you use by equiping chains. There are over 100 chains to find in the game and a bit more than 100^3 combinations.

This looks surprisingly good, man. There are inconsistent graphics here and there, but if you put out the finished game you might have something.

Nothing about it seems spectacular at all, and I can't even say that any of it seems to amaze me, but it certainly looks solid, and that counts for something. Original facesets go a long way, too.

Thanks. I know that the screens don't look spectacular. But I have put much effort in the boss fights and there are several bosses as big as the screen. I just don't want to show them yet, because I don't want to spoil everything. Also the story should be quite interesting, as it is far more complex then the introduction I gave. But here again, you have to play it.
But it won't be so long to the final release. I have one more dungeon to map, and the mainquest is finished 70%. All the systems and graphics (exept 2 final bosses) are done and maybe I can release it before march. But I don't want to push myself too hard.
But it goes quite well. Probably because this project is not so big as my first one^^.

Aside from your spelling and grammar errors (I looked passed that because English is not your native language) this is surprisingly a nice looking project. I kinda like where your story goes. It's more original than a many of others. Hopefully we'll see something before March. Good luck with this.
 
Yeah, surprisingly I had much difficulties writing that topic. Dunno why. Luckily, I did not have that much problems writing the dialogues in the game. There it was much easier and (at least that is what it felt like) and I hope that there will be not so much errors. Maybe I'm just not accustomed to that narrative style.
But sorry for those errors. I will ask someone to look at the games language before the release. (I bet that there are a lot errors in these lines, too. But I'm very tired at the moment...)

By the way, the boss graphics are original. I only use original resources (few are not self made) or RTP/White Ties/KNight Blade.

The story is a bit unusual because you really don't know if you are working for the good guys or the bad guys. This will not be clear to the hero for a long time. And there are three alternate endings, so you can decide which side your really on. But I have to be careful with the words good and evil/bad, cause in the end it just depends on the point of view.

Sorry for the doublepost. But there are two important things:

1st: Since I am currently working on a study (university) about game difficulty affecting the players enjoyment, I found it essentially to make it possible for the player to choose the difficulty in my game (in fact, difficulty is very important for enjoyment). Luckily, there is a nice script. But I have just a little problem. I already wrote in the topic:

2nd: I think the mainquest will be completely finished in about two weaks. After that, there is not much work left. Just adding some sidequests. So I'm progressing quite well.

Hm... The plot really is a bit similair to ToA. I just looked at the plot on a website. But honestly, I've never played it. Sadly, a lot of good RPGs don't come out here in Europe. No Tales of games on ps2, no Grandia 3, no Persona 3 and so on...
Even Suikoden 3 did not come out. I'd love to play these games... But well, there are still some that do come out :)
But I do not believe that the story in ToA goes in the same direction. Events will happen and things will change pretty quick in Hybris...
 
Lucien? You make a Hybris 2? Really great, I played the first one and I liked it (time ago). The only german XP game I've ever liked and now there will be a english version..looks so great. You made many graphics on your own or am I wrong? Seems also there are many edits..nice nice. How can I say..man I'm really looking forward for the second part of hybris. Keep up the good work!

Unfortunately, I had a lot to do in real-life lately, so I am a bit behind schedule.
Another reason for that are the addational bonus-dungeons I want to create. So the game will hopefully be out somewhere in march, don't really know when exactly, though...
 
Take your time, hopefully it would be as great as Hybris 1. Anyway, march isn't so far apart, so keep it up, I'm looking forward to the game!
