How do I make an event character shoot fireballs downward?

Optional: Can the fireballs follow the player, and if they don't hit the player within a certain time or collide with a wall, they subside? Thanks!
 
I'm having some trouble now. Whenever the switch is pulled, it adds to the variable regardless of the character's position. Also, I'm going to specify that the said variable is not a part of the position thing, it's a switch variable, like if x=3, this happens.
 
Okay. If you post a screenshot of the entire switch event, it'll help-- you may well have the command to increase the variable in the wrong place.

What I'd do with the variable is making checking it be part of the event where you pull the switch.

What I demonstrated above would work for that. Alternatively, you could just have the bad guy's event change to a different page by giving that page the Page Condition Variable (Bad Guy Hits):= 3 or above.
