Dead Content [FULL GAME] Smiley's quest.

Dead content awaiting restoration.

After a long time, I finally finished my 2nd full game.
this time it's a game maker game called "Smiley's quest"
It's a platformer, and you get to play as a... smiley.
It's a relatively short game, you play through 5 worlds, each one made of 4 levels and 1 boss level
It's my first game maker game, so there might be a few bugs here and there, but most of the have been fixed. I wanted to make a somewhat retro game, inspired a bit by games like Kirby. Besides the music that's taken from a number of games, all the graphics are original.

STORY: Smiley and his girlfriend Smileene were having a picnic, when a mysterious spaceship appeared and kidnapped her. Now Smiley has to rescue her from the hands of the evil aliens.

SCREENSHOTS:
WORLD1: green valley

I hope you guys will like it.

I like the graphics, especially the well-done title screen.
I will try this out tomorrow (It's gettin late here)
I like these games, I made similiar (well, a lot worse one :D ) in the old Klik n Play software :D
Well, as I said, I will try it out tomorrow.

Three nitpicks:

1.) The low resolution made my computer go "WTF?!?!" while loading.
2.) Kind of urked that there's not an animation for going into doors, and no transition between levels.
3.) LAAAAAAG; it's really, really laggy when it first starts up, to the point where I had to skip the intro in order to play the game before I'm fifty.

Other than that, this is pretty good.  The graphics are utterly adorable, and the music's catchy.  Good job.

thanx, about the nitpicks:
1)well, the resolution is 320x240, I guess not many computers look too good using it, but it's only a few moments wile it loads.
2)I know the transition between levels is choppy, I wish I knew a simple way to make it better, I'll try to learn that for my next game.
3) lag? that's weird I don't get any, just the moments when the game loads ( I made the game to load most of the stuff on the beginning, so it wouldn't lag in mid-game.
Next game will have a better resolution, so I hope that will fix some of the issues.

MAP 1: Green Valley - This is from sonic the hedgehog from Sega Genesis, -.- Think of a different name
MAP 2: This is the 2nd level of super mario bro's advance 2 for gba.
MAP 3: From a mario game for GBA, this is the 1st castle map
MAP 4: This looks like one of the levels from GBA's Sonic the Hedgehog Advanced
MAP 5: Lol this was on an old Crash the bandicoot game on PS2.
Am I right?
Oh well, I'll test it later...

Eh? well, I've never played sonic, so I don't really get the differences.
But I've played all the mario games, and I haven't used any maps from it.
if by the super mario advance for the gba you mean super mario bros 3, yes it had a desert level too, but it was nothing like this one, this is like the far west desert, not a egyptian one like in SMB3.
level 1 was called vegetable valley at first, but I changed it because kirby had the same name. the levels are pretty generic, valley, desert, ice, haunted house, it was pretty used back then, that was the idea of them. but they're not exact copies or anything.

You're thinking of Green Hill Zone. There's never been a StH level named Green Valley :)

This looks amazing! DL'ing now! :D

So I played it, it's very promising!

Is there any way you can map the keys to also include other keystrokes? I REALLY want to play it with my gamepad but I can't because the keys seem to ONLY respond to Alt, Space, and the arrow keys. Pressing F1 only brings up a deal that tells you the controls. (which is a nice feature, but now I can't map my keys to the ones I'd like!)

Sometimes Smiley gets caught when between two tiles (like when you explode one starred block and then jump through it, half the time he gets wedged there and you have to keep tapping Space to get out).

I didn't experience any lag, but the panorama oddly jerked around when I moved. It was disorienting at first.

I got to the Desert levels but my carpal tunnel was screaming at me after pressing alt and Spacebar so much. If you could map the keys to using A, X, etc. as well as those keys, so I could use my gamepad, I could finish it without pain! :D

The art is EXTREMELY cute and the physics are surprisingly well done!
This is an RMXP game? Because it seems like GameMaker :)

Good job! This earns my coveted Ven's Seal of Approval!(tm)

I've used Game Maker enough to know this is Game Maker.
Which is pretty fortunate for me, because Game Maker already has a save/load system installed into the engine. :D

thanx for the comments, guys!
I'm sorry Ven, there's no way of changing the keys, though spacebar and alt would be easy for everyone to use...
and Krop, yes it´s made in gamemaker, btw if you guys don't want to start from the beginning each time you loose:
with the + key you can jump to the next level.
