Non jRPG from RPG Maker XP


Here's a small project I've been on for last two weeks.
It's closest cousin would be the "castle defence" genre.
This game is also a satire on divided RPG Maker communities : )

Story:
Evil Lord Twot'housan'd III invades the Kingodm of Expia. As Prince Arshes you must repel the invasion. That's about it : )

Gameplay:
It's pretty much about aiming and firing the magic cannon. You can also purchase some upgrades an bonuses.
Be sure to check out the instructions in the main menu - lots of helpful tips live there.

Hmm, haven't played it yet, but from the look of that last screenshot, those windows are going to cover the enemies, making it hard to tell what their health is at o.O

This is the first time I've seen a castle defense game here. Is it just the one map or are there different levels and scenes? Graphics are a tad inconsistent (Arshes vs. background vs. enemies) but not too terribly.
 
Really nice to see that someone is using the program for something other than an RPG or action game. Didn't expect this at all and from the screens it looks pretty good.

@Tomas: I've added new mirror.
@Regi: Basically there's just one map, but there's also that Easter-egg to be found :) As for this particular inconsistency with graphics - I wanted to stress the contrast between these two "worlds". I thought of it as a fun way to do that. I'm more concerned about the power-up icons - I know they don't blend in very well, but just couldn't make any good looking fantasy ones by myself.
 
I can just suggest one thing that would make this better...pause option. :D Unless I missed it, I think that would make this awesome!!! I love the idea and graphics for this! You did an excellent job on it!
 
ok so i gave it a shot (heh, literally)

first off the setting and graphics and mood are awesome.
esp the integration of drawings in the charts, and the map was just plain awesome
the pop-up upgrades were concealed on an obvious place too, so those weren't hard to find

and i immediatly knew what i had to do

ok some minor points that caught my attention:
the upgrades, to start with - i didnt really know what they did, or how they improved something, apart from the first one.
so maybe you could've add some descriptions, and a pause function perhaps?

also you cannot pause between waves to read descriptions or think of what you're going to do with your points - how to spend them
or maybe you can but i wasn't aware of there being a pause button

also the game started to lag at wave 3, this might also be due to the not pausing between waves and stuff
idk how your system works so i won't go into detail here.

note: this was only the first play

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions, guys. I'll definitely have to think of that pause option. I'm planning to improve this project, expand to something bigger (not on RMXP, though), so your tips will be really helpful then.
As for the effects of the upgrades - I was hoping that a description in the instructions would be enough, but obviously I was mistaken :) Do you think that text informations, like "Range increased", "Damage over 9000" would suffice? Of course along with more graphical improvements.
Tomas, I'm sorry that the game starts to lag. Each new wave is actually the same one. events are being teleported, their graphic and parameters are changed and the wave is released. It's all deep in the scripts so there are no junks left after each wave. I have no clue as for the cause of it :(
