December Game Making Competition
ANYONE CAN MAKE A GAME!

Register NOW! (when Dec 1 hits, of course)
Make sure you go to the website and register for an account that you will use to submit your game.

Overview
Each entrant must follow the tutorials and create a theme-based game in Game Maker: Studio free edition. The competition is for anyone who knows how to work a computer! The tutorials provided for the competition go into thorough detail about how to make a video game from start to finish.

THEME: Motivation
Motivation is a big moving force in the way people play games. This month you need to make a game that involves a direct/indirect form of motivation. Whether it be a carrot on a stick for a horse or a shiny new diamond for a robber, motivation needs to be in your game.

Winning Conditions
Each game submission will be judged by the community, so the more people you get to vote for your game, the better your chances become! In the end, though, the ultimate decision will be made based on the top submissions. The games will be judged based on:

  • Followed the competition theme
  • Originality
  • ACMG points: These are earned through social interaction on the ACMG website.

Prizes Include:
* Denotes that this prize amount could change.

1st Place
  • $150*

2nd Place
  • Steam Game: Mercenary Kings x3
  • $25*

3rd Place
  • Steam Game: Monster Loves You
  • Steam Game: Foul Play
  • $15*

4th Place
  • Steam Game: Monster Loves You
  • $10*

5th Place
  • $5*

Rules
  • The aim of the competition is to develop entirely your own game based on the tutorial’s theme within the time limit (Dec 1- Jan 1).
  • You MUST submit your final game before the 1st of Jan 2014.
  • You MUST have stated you are going to enter before the 20th of December (via online registration for the competition).
  • You MUST NOT include anything in the game that you don’t have full permission to use or without good reason use significant amounts of game content that you or somebody else had already made prior to the competition.
  • Your final game MUST have the “Theme Elements.”
  • The game MUST be created in Game Maker: Studio. The game MUST run on Windows 7. Your game shouldn’t require additional software installation.
  • Don’t be a cheater.
  • ONE entry per person (or team), maximum team of FOUR.
  • Your game MUST NOT be libelous, harmful, threatening, harassing, abusive, racially or ethnically offensive, sexually explicit, pornographic, obscene, defamatory or objectionable, in our opinion.
  • We reserve the right to update or otherwise change the rules and to disqualify any entrant who breaks the rules.

Donations and Sponsorship
If you do not want to make a game, but you would like to donate to the prize pool for the winners, we welcome nearly anything! You are welcome to give a game code, a game download, more money, or even a membership to your website! Please feel free to use this chance to promote yourself by giving away free stuff to the winners. If you are donating to the competition, please use the form on our website.

What happens when it’s over?
When the competition is over, all of the games will be available on our website with any links to your personal websites (if you would like), and the winners’ games will be highlighted and always at the top of the list.

Finally, the Theme
The theme is motivation!

Awesome Bro

This sounds interesting. But I don't know if I understand it right. There will be a series of tutorials that all have a theme? That the contest will need to complete, after which the ideas is to continue adding to the tutorial game and submit what comes of it?

Also I like that the contest is restricted to the free version. but you may want to list out the restrictions the free version has, so those who want to join, that have a license will not break the limits of the free version. You may have listed this someplace already.

Let me just clear some things up.

1. You make a game in one month. The tutorials are to guide anyone who has never touched Game Maker.

2. The theme is what you need to include in your game. The game has to have something to do with the theme. For example, if the theme was Heat. You must include that theme somewhere in the game whether it's cops chasing you or the sun beating down on your back.

3. The only limit to the free version is how many resources you can use (unlimited in the full version). That is why the game is not solely based on the size of your game.

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
RadethDart

No worries, sometimes I say things in a weird way. :D

@Jason: You should totally join and make something fun! I have seen your games. Just give it a shot. :) hehe It's $150!

Hey everyone,

The competition theme is on the website just in case you decided you still want to join up!
