What inspires you for making your storylines?

The question for me is:
what doesn't makes you think of a storyline
I've been inspired by just about anything.
Ditto. I have been inspired by books, other games, dreams (the type you have while sleeping,) things I've seen while just walking etc. Anything that may give me an idea that can be developed further works.

C/p'd from another thread;

Music, or rather atmospheres created by music. I do things with atmospheres than anything. Just loading the chaos into my mind and brainstorm. I do take notice I put a lot aspects of my own character in the game very often, but I don't think anyone here would ever notice.

1. Drawing. This mainly applies to characters. If I really need to come up with a good character, I just start doodling a random person, and by the end I'll have developed a full personality, set of quirks, and even a bit of their history just because of the way I drew them. I don't know why it works so well, but it has yet to fail.

Always music. When ever I hear a song that I enjoy, I just start forming characters and scenes to go along with the song.

If it wasn't for wikipedia my game would be full of loopholes and obviously lazily done spots.
Though I'm not sure if that's inspiration or a marker tool, either way the initial idea was inspired by a Wikipedia article.

Fair enough, given it was an undeserved edit.  Else we ask that you leave the eating people part to Andy and Atemu.
Actually Serenade just inspired me for a boss monster in my project.  A large steel (based on avatar) creature who'll devour beings who have moved it... don't ask but it fits... yeah, see.  What can't be an inspiration?

Watching anime cartoons.

i get my inspiration from alice in wonderland (LOLWHOKNEW?) .. not meaning everything i think up is based off of it, but that when i watch it, it makes me go HEY THATS CREATIVE =D then i get inspired to be creative, too

Cruelty I think you would really like a book called the looking glass wars and the rest of that series (Seeing Redd is the second one and I think there is a third which is not released yet)

I've already said music but something else for me is books, like the one mentioned above.

It may sound strange but I usually get jazzed up over a dumb game, it just makes me so mad with the suckiness of it that I must make a better one.

Err, I was saying watching anime cartoons doesn't inspire. But okay.

Well, by your logic, I don't like classical music like Mozart. Therefore, it can't be inspiring. So I suppose the people who were inspired by Mozart actually weren't.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

(I'm not bashing anyone who is inspired by classical music. If that's what inspires you, that's what inspires you. I'm just trying to make a point.)

Sometimes, I'm inspired by something in the graphics or capabilities of the game design software, actually.  I look at a graphic, and I think, "Hey, I could work with that..."

Names, places, actually.

When I hear of a cool sounding name or place, I.E Cryll, the last name of a famous composer, I think of it as a town name and eventually build a story and characters around it. Sometimes the town isn't even that major, but when I finish it I usually put a secret area there for you to find.

For me, it can vary to other video games, artwork, music, or English literature.

For artwork and music, sometimes when I listen/look a pieces I get a "click" and I imagine a different world with its own story.

That's pretty much it for me.

Going to bed. Seriously. Every time I lie down and try to get some fricken sleep, some ideas come up. That's why I now go to sleep 27 times a day.
