What happened to .net: a timeline

So is there still a backup of the .net database somewhere? If so it couldn't be too difficult to create an archive of the forums.

I believe Erk was able to get a backup of the .net forums. I"m not sure what the status of that is yet, but just be patient.

If you need, I have some .net script posts that I backed up myself... check my sig for the link. This all I have, which is more than I needed, but I got a bit carried away with pulling everything that I might need off before it crashed.

edit: Nm, just looked up the whois details.

Thought the domain was grabbed by someone else but looks like it was just moved to a parking page with a ton of ads instead of "account suspended"

For the .net backup, would you not have to buy another board license? If so it's pointless.

sandgolem, i believe the page it is at is the domain registar. BTW rmxp.co.uk is available... [$t3V0!!]

Never pointless. Having a database backup means we still have the data, even if its a pain to get stuff from it as just a backup, at least we still have it. :)

To restore it to a forum, you wouldn't have to buy a board license. Depending on what the .net forum was (I'm thinking it was IPB2), there are lots of open source GPL forum softwares that have programs for converting one forum's data into another.

There is a complete backup of the RMXP.net Forums database. It is also a very recent backup (downloaded about 12 hours before going down again). I'll be putting it online soon as an archive at lordgradient.com so that everyone who has information stored in the database can retrieve it. Be aware that the database needs to split into a hundred or so segments -- each of which requiring manual insertion into a fresh database -- because of its large size, so it may take some time (less than a week though, unless I get swamped with other things).

In related news, Erk will be taking over the RMXP.net domain. He said he also has a recent backup of the old forums, but it probably isn't as recent as mine. The RMXP.net domain will be used to point to here, not to the old site. Though, if it were decided to point to a new webserver I do still have everything else backed up just in case.

When I get the archives up, I'll be sure to let everyone know right away.

If you want to restore a super super massive .sql file, you don't need to split it up. Just use bigdump.php (haha bugdump.. o ya & google is ur freind use it bro).

The Glorious Re-Appearing.

I love how Gradient says nothing really special or big or doesn't make a big announcement, just posts like nothing happened, and doesn't even use his normal name.

I find it fucking hilarious. My hate level for Gradient just went -1.

My post (the first one) was actually complimentary. :\

To reword and make it somewhat more beneficial to the thread:

I'm glad that Gradient has come out of hiding, but mostly because of the way he did this. No big announcements, no big story, no nothing = no drama. Just do what you got to do and move on.

I like that.
