Since XP, the whole creation process is reduced to copy, paste, release.

What do you mean by that?

I'll assume that he meant most RMXP games make use of the same scripts and resources, so nothing has a particularly unique feel (I could be wrong). Whether or not I agree is a different issue. :P

What really gets my attention?
Astounding Graphics, Storyline/Plot, Characters, and maybe a video or 2.
I always check the screen shots for how the maps were made, and how the game is presented overall.
Another big plus is original music which is hard to come-by.
Most games I downloaded had these in the topic page except for one, which was Quintessence.
Reives, being the greedy bastard he is, decided not to post the characters or story-plot. The sorta got me interested to wonder why he wouldn't post it. Then I saw his video and I was like, "Damn Straight" and downloaded right there.

I download all I can so that:
1. I can learn from their mistake.
2. I can use their idea and expand it to make my game more appealing.
3. Inspiration (if its a really good game)
4. A good laugh (for the other not-so-good ones)

I am more into the gameplay than story seeing I finish a lot of Japanese games (super robot wars, grandia, etc.) even though I can't barely understand the story, I am having fun with the gameplay and that is enough to warrant my interest.

You're a lot like me then.

Often times I will download others games for inspiration to work on my game. I will only download games that either have very appealing screenshots (I'm a bit of a sucker for good graphics) or (sometimes and) if people posting enjoy it. It doesn't need A LOT of people enjoying it, but If it looks fun I'll do it. A fun game will cut back my boredom and give me a little inspiration to work on my game.

I'm a sucker for undead as well, but I'm actually a sucker for rivaling kingdoms and dragons as well (apparently no one on this forum is either... what the heck?).

I don't know... to me the purest form of an RPG is a medieval epic with lots of magic and creatures and warring kingdoms.  It never gets old for me as long as they are done right.
Well for me it's not about getting old... I just never liked it in the first place. :P

It's really not fair if you download one game by a person, find it crap and then never download a game from them again, or if you dismiss them because their game looks bad from 'what you can see'.  You need to give them a chance to improve, and they can't do that without criticism, so if you just stick to playing the games of people who have got a good reputation, you're denying someone else the chance of improving their game-making - so you can't really complain that their game is that bad, as you're partly to blame.

I feel like I just proved 2 + 2 = 3. =D.

@Fireworksinc:
The thing is, people are not (always) machines that are purely out on a mission to help; most download games in hope that they can actually gain some enjoyment out of it for their own merit. Saying that others are partly to blame because one was not able to produce a thread attractive enough to draw them in, is like a poor person blaming others for not giving him/her money. [However, I'm pretty sure that you didn't mean it as severely as what I seem to be responding to. So my bad, no need to take all this as directed at you.]

That aside, I do agree that people should be given a second chance and whatnot (although that should take care of itself, as if they've improved, it should be evident in the thread). And it certainly would be great if all projects could receive a great amount of feedback, as almost everyone has the potential to create the next best thing in time.

I tend to download games rated or reviewed highly by other members (this site included). Otherwise, I try out projects that have promising threads (screenshots, storyline, characters, etc.) and/or a good touch of originality.

A question though, why all the hate for ABS's? I understand some people just don't like the battle system itself, but I think it unfair to discriminate them all as "laggy/horrible controls/not fun." If executed well, it can really be a fun and original addition to gameplay.

Yes, that is true, but...How many ABS' here are actually executed well? I just chalk it up to ABS' being more delicate to handle in terms of graphics, control, fun, movement, difficulty balance, and whatnot.
