What do you expect from a commercial game?

That is beside the point. Putting profits aside, you do still need money to keep going. To say you don't have eyes on money at all would be stupid, because you wouldn't have the capital to start a project without it if you had intended to commercially distribute your game in the first place.

Unless it came out of your own pocket.. which makes you value your own project more than anyone else.

You're still missing the point. Out of your pocket only goes so far, unless your pocket happens to bleed money. If you can't find a way to get back what you spent on making your first project, then count on that project being your last one.

I agree with both of you, in a way.

Brosek - because if you don't like your game you will put less effort into it, and so it wont be as good as it could be. You have to put effort into your game, so making a shooter when you really want to make a Mario rip-off, isn't a good idea.

Sabao - because if you are spending money you really do want to get it back unless you wouldn't spend the money anyway. RMXP is really a hobby above anything else (unless someone makes a job out of it like Amanda Fae). I know if I won the lottery (not that I play, but it's just an expression) I'd spend at least £10,000 on my game even if there was no hope of getting that much in return. But the fact you spent money on it means it will be better, or done faster, so you will get more money back than without.

Main expectation would be that the game is extremely enjoyable, preferably with a good story and good content
The rest of my expectations would probably depend on the price of the game.
