What annoys ME about the project forum!

ok I tried to clean up my last post, but really I'm serious about that crystal thing, its probably the most cliche' thing since evil empires.

But cliche isn't necessarily a bad thing. Fighting with swords is cliche, and a common element of RPG's, but that's because swords (and crystals) are "cool".

Cliche is in fact what I think you should aim for with your first works with rmxp.  It's enough to have to learn to map, event and plan out the entire course of a game let alone have to be constantly worrying whether what you are presenting is revolutionary enough to avoid a grilling.

Regardless, this is not a defense of a sloppy project thread, or a prematurely posted one at that.  Just a point to the cliche brigade.

As interesting as this is, bad games aren't against the rules by any means. There's nothing wrong with a cliche game being posted.

Poor topic presentation is, however, against the rules, when there isn't enough information or it isn't presented properly in a topic, there are problems.

I don't really understand the point of this topic, but at the same time there's nothing wrong with it so there's no reason to lock it. Is there an actual forum issue that needs to be addressed that I am missing?

Issue?  The issue is exactly what you stated.  Poor topic presentation.

There really isn't a way to fix that unless you plan on changing members.  The only solution I can come up with is topic approval by moderators...but that is tedious and annoying.  :P

I am not bothered by the project forum itself, but rather by the many people who don't read or follow the rules. Honestly, before I posted I watched the forum for a while, then read the rules and then posted.

How many project-threads have to be closed or moved for people to actually get a clue?
The forum itself is nice and almost every game there that follows the rules, is somewhat cool and has it's good features.
I enjoy looking at it... Until I have to see a one sentence plot with no other material in Project Discussion.

Well, after all it is the fact that people don't follow rules that annoys me most about the projects forum.

You said it yourself, there's nothing we can do about that. Although changing members is one of our long-term goals, it's not really something that we can just DO.

The problem with topics like these is that everyone who looks in them is fine. The problem members are the ones that go straight into the project forum and post their horrible topics without taking the time to look anywhere else.

Two words: Back button.

Honestly, most of these bad projects go in the Early Project forum and if you don't lurk around there you probably don't see them. If it were up to me I'd eliminate the middle ground "Project Discussion" and just leave it at Early Projects and Playable Projects keeping the same demo criteria.

I don't think this would be a good idea. Projects are more developed then early projects. There should be forums for both, because the good projects would get lost between those early ones, that are not coming along so nicely.

Could just be me though...

I think the problem with that is, everyone thinks their project is "good." I think the middle ground puts more work on the staff then need be. Either you have a informative thread with a sufficient amount of playable content or you're still in the early development process. There's already a thread for ideas that don't have all the visuals and such and El Felixio already pointed that out I believe.

Here:

Surprisingly, I've seen more fleshed out ideas than those that actually make it to the middle ground forum.

Well still... Are you saying saying that projects like >>Steel Hearts<< or >>Adolescence<<, belong in one forum with those projects we discuss about? Just two examples, that came to me just now.

Well they would if there was no middle ground as you call it. Since they are in Project discussion.

I still say we need, the middle ground.

In short yes.

Even if put among the lesser impressive projects, I've no doubt that something like Steel Hearts would get the attention it deserves, but humor me. How much useful information can be given? Several people can breakdown their individual likes and dislikes about plot, characters, etc. After that you can make comments about the visuals as well, but eventually all that can be said will be said aside from personal opinions, which can be given to projects that don't say anything but:

Story:
Kill the dragon and save the princess.

Early projects aren't necessarily a down-grade by any means. They are early projects. What is considered filth and what is considered golden should be up to the reader and shouldn't require staff moderation at all.

Project Discussion IS the middle ground. It just so happens that there aren't a lot of projects with incredible threads. If a game is in development and there is significant progress being made, it goes into the main project forum. Otherwise, there is an early projects forum.

It's not our job to discriminate and make a special forum for projects that we like- and it shouldn't be like that.

Unless it is something that has nothing to do with the thread, but rather with screenshots or something.

But if you can, you should really edit it. People tend not to do this...  :-\

What I hate is when people don't use their imagination. I mean, making a game isn't about taking an already good franchise, calling it something stupid, and make it completely revolting. Games like "Final Fantasy CIV"(That's some hefty roman numerals)and "Pokémon: Brown Mud" aren't going to be brilliant, as they've already been done.
I'm not saying their aren't some good ones out there, I'm just saying it's not original.
Thing is, when people try to make remakes, they don't try to see the game, and try and develop that. Final Fantasy games need STORYLINES! Not "Lol, this is sweet, some dude get's a gun and shoots someone and then they die and then he says "dudeish" and then u save the world usin some awesome item and then it goes back to the title screen that I did really cool in Paint (*Insert picture copied off google images here*)"
I also hate shoddy grammer. (Did I spell that right?). Yeah, so maybe people don't know the correct usage of the semi-colon, but they can at least of learnt not to Capitalise Every Word. I hate it most in-game though... :pissed: :pissed: :pissed: :pissed: :pissed: :pissed:
Anyway, I've had my rant.

What I hate most about the Project forums?

STOLEN IDEAS

I posted my first project Dark Winds, (Which has undergone severe cosmetic surgery, in case y'all wanna stop by and check it out) on October 31st. Now, at first I didn't get that many posts, because my game is not really special. After all it's my first. However, In the middle to later part of November, Like 4 WHOLE projects started popping up about darkness. They were Horrible Stories, Horrendous Spelling and Grammar errors, and The owners of the threads (most of them) refused to take Constructive Critisism. All this made my thread look bad to the point that someone (Elias) said that he was sick of seeing Darkness stories and that it was annoying as hell. MY TOPIC WAS THERE FIRST.

That's whats so annoying. With this influx of new members, they post these horrible threads and Detract attention and even Destroy other peoples projects because of their own mistakes. So, instead of giving constructive comments to those who actually put months of effort into our projects, our solid members are out trying to beat the back the ever growing waves of Horrendous Threads that are slowly but surely starting to swamp us. This isn't fair to us, and it's not fair to you. *Rant has concluded*
