What annoys ME about the project forum!

I disagree entirely with posts like Xilef's... saying that new people should look at others games and aim for their level, or not make games like Final Fantasy or whatever... A game can only be good if you put everything into it. And if you don't want to make the game in the first place, it will be crap. So if you want to make FFVII-2, go ahead. Just because everyone else is eating taco's doesn't mean you can't order a burrito just because you are new and inexperienced at mexican food.

Think about when you started out in the RMXP world... did you know anything about scripting, graphics, mapping, etc? They have to start somewhere, and a project thread is a good way.

Though yes, a paragraph describing a game goes in predevelopment. But I mean if there's more. Just because it's cliche, overused, or noobie, doesn't make it bad.

I have to agree with the thinking part. I've had RMXP for a year, and I haven't produced a single game, because I'm still in the writing phase. Everytime I get somewhere, I begin to think that it's too cliche'd or that it's happened before. I'd rather not risk attaching my name to crap.

I think most people, out of the goodness of their hearts, are trying to stop people from making the biggest mistake they might ever make in their RPG maker lives.

I think most projects using RMXP are a kind of experience rather than a life long dream. These kind of poorly thought out projects should be first posted somewhere else before clogging up the project forum. The project forum should only be there for rather realistic perhaps potentially good games. However, if everyone posted a paragraph of utter crap that would completely destroy the board and people with good projects wont get the right support and attention.

My project has hardly any replies, while 8bit NES wannabess without an actualy storyline get pages upon pages.

and people with good projects wont get the right support and attention.

I really hope you're not jealous.

If people are attracted to their game topics, good,  they will likely get better eventually with good critque.
I don't see where you get "newbie's get pages and pages" becauase when I see the project sections, I only see the more experienced games getting pages. Unless you're indirectly reffering to "My game" and "dreamland", those topics only got hot because people were bashing not only critquing their game.

I don't honestly think it "destroys" the board, and you can instantly tell the difference between a newbie's game and a moderate game. So, I honestly don't see why.  :-\

I agree; if a game gets attention, it's usually because it deserves it.  Now might be a good time to kick your game up a notch.

Nothing bugs me more than someone with even a single cliche character. Flat, static, and stock characters are just as bad. Aside from that, I hate when n00bs who can't even come up with a story want a team. They want people to make their story, make their sprites, find their battle system scripts, and so on. Before posting a topic, they should learn at least the basics of a storyline, and learn how to use whatever RPG Maker they have.

Do 100's of new RPG'ers from all sides know the basics, just from obtaining a newly bought RPG maker and starting at once?

NO reasonability people. -__-

What annoys me, honestly, is projects that are made as an addition to a real series, like, oh, I don't know ... Final Fantasy. Especially because Final Fantasy games are each their own game, there's no reason to tag "Final Fantasy" on there. ._.;

aka a fan game.  :x  I agree, they don't usually work out very well.

Cassy YOU know the difference, others dont. Others probally look at one topic, the one with the most views and regard at as the best project and give undue attention.

It generally appears to me that genuinely-respectable project topics are given their own fair share of attention by other fellow members. And the not-so-good ones a hefty amount of negative remarks; attention- yes, but not with the good treatment.

I don't really see what's wrong with that.

Yes? So? And if it's a "bad" topic, they just press back, or join in with the critques.
There aren't too many bad games with lots of views so I don't see what the big deal is.

Storyline
They meet, find 4 shards, destroy it, evil empire, kills all nuuuuz.

that's unrealistic. i can completely emulate a early project development thread:

Topic: crimson blade kingdoms

Topic: its about a kid who is training to become great warrior when one day his village is attacked by the (inexplicably) evil empire and they kill his family so he goes on a quest to get revenge on them. he has to go to the 3 sacred caves across the land and find the magic crystal shards to make a sword to kill the king

Characters:

name - zero
age - 14
he is a young boy who is getting a revenge for his family that was killed by the empire

name - kasumita (or any pseudo-juppaneese name that dont fit at all)
age - 14
she is a mage that knows zero all his life and goes with him on the journey

name - the king
age - ???
he killd people and is evil he also put the magic crystals in the caves to try to hide them

name-blaze
age-17
nobody knows who he is but he is more powerful

features:

all custom battle system
all custom menus
all custom sprites
over 75+ hours of gameplay

recruiting:

i need
a scripter
a writer
a spriter
a tester
a mapper

screens:

sorry i just only have a title screen right now!

I must say this thread is quite the riveting read  ;D

But probably the thing I hate most about games is.......*drum rolling*.......*symbols!* Crystals!!!!!

I absolutely am fed up with crystals, for god sakes they're freaking compressed rocks formed when a lump of dirt is either compressed under a few tonnes of wieght or is super-heated, not a magical item of power or a glowing lantern.

An example of a game about crystals:

Title: *long wods* Crystals
Story: Crystals power the world, a young boy/girl needs to find them, she's acomponied by some friends who just happened to have known her for her whole life.
Features: Glowing crystals *gasp*
Team: Me, I em 12 =P

its that kind of thread that really gets to me.....

That's it from me, and I hope to be even more entertained by this thread in the coming weeks.

-Loofah

That's not really on topic, Loofah.

This thread is about the project forum, not the projects themselves. You'd think you would know that, after having read the rest of the thread. :|

Besides, crystals aren't that bad of a plot device. A bit trite, but if used effectively, they can work well enough.

Also, to remedy the problems with project disussion, andits sub-forums, I suggest giving Atemu a missile launcher. That oughtta 'fix' it. Yup.

That wasn't aimed at me, was it? I try to report bad eggs, uh, topics, whenever I see them.

I still say giving you some heavy artillery would help, though. People would just have to be careful not to make fun of Yu_Gi_Oh!, is all.

Oh, and might I add, that project discussion has been looking rather fine, recently. Aside from a couple crap threads, it looks good. A quick glance over any of the topics doesn't make me want to vomit. It's a good sign.
