Urban Fantasy, experimental JRPG

Hi everyone!

I'm here to introduce my "experimental project". I work as a writer in the videogame field with indie companies, though I must say that my first love is Rpgmaker, the first gamedev tool I learnt to deal with, and in two weeks I started using a trial version of Ace and created a brand new project. The provisional title is Urban Fantasy.

PREMISE

Urban Fantasy is an experimental JRPG featuring an urban environment, social problems, thrill and fantasy. In order to melt these two different aspects (Urban and Magic) the game focuses on the commonly excluded social cathegories you never heard something about when played traditional JRPGs like students, salarymen, policemen, poors etc... the same for the representation of an environment which has a strong narrative potential as our cities are. Subsequently such a setting gives us room to portray an URBAN kind of magic, dealing mainly with the popular kinds of arts we usually witness everyday on walls, tv etc.. as Psychic abilities, Graffiti, Cyber abilities, Rapping etc... can be but those are just an example of what I have in mind.

WHAT ABOUT STORY?

The story of the game will unfold among different cities/nations/MNCs (resembling many from the world we live in) and various characters striving to seek a greater power able to change the whole balance of power, creating new threats and erasing the old ones; for now the game is passing through an evaluation phase, SO each single like or comment will be decisive to decide its possibility of being created and launched through a kickstarter action

CHARACTERS

René Vanguard

René is a young student attending the last High School year in the 4th district of Lagarde City, the capital of the Elysium Republic. During his childhood he discovered his true gift in using Psycho Magic, this has driven him towards dirty jobs involving fighting, debt collecting and other criminal activities. He keeps on living day by day without big dreams or projects till destiny finds him.

Do you read/watch a lot of the Urban Fantasy genre?
You might start by explaining how the world works. Is the paranormal common place? Are there angels and demons secretly living among us? Vampire clans, Wolf Packs, Covens, Cults, spirit portals, parallel dimensions or planes of existences, that sort of stuff.
Always explain what magic is and how it works because people can have very different ideas and expectations.

Thanks. Actually I'm thinking of having a contemporary world in which paranormal is normal, so everybody can learn magic and use it as well as alchemy etc... the same goes for monsters and other creatures which, more than monsters, are considered intelligent/social animals which are able to create societies and groups (so finally a talking slime :) ).
Regarding magic I'm thinking in particular of having a magic not related to elements but to emotions, so for example if a person is driven by hate will be able to use that emotion as a magic tool, this may differentiate lots of aspects in gameplay and story.

UPDATE: RECRUITMENT OPENED FOR THE GAME

I am writing here to invite you to apply for the creation of the team behind Urban Fantasy.
The game will have the chance of appearing among the indie titles at Indie Videogame fairs as well as in the indie corner of some of the main events of the field.

Payment will be afforded mainly by royalties which will be decided according to each case.

Among the requested positions: scripter, illustrator, pixel artist, music expert
