Unconventional Character Traits/Details

The only time this sort of thing has ever stood out to me in one way or another, it was in a good way, and that was in Xenogears.

All the characters with the tan skin/silver hair. Once it became clear they were linked, I though it was neat. It certainly was distinctive, while also being something that I could imagine actually encountering.

Other than that, I've gotten so used to it, any hair color is cool.

I reserve unusual hair and eye colors for characters who are nonhuman, or have some other reason for it (for example: in the setting for the game I am working on, there is a race of halfling-like creatures who all have green hair, because they photosynthesise)

Well, unless the game world is a representation of our world, there's no real obligation to have realistic hair and eye colours. However, if the main character has Purple hair, and no one else (including his/her parents) have it, then they're either a little too Mary Sue, or they own the world's supply of purple hair dye. >>

Not necessarily. If there is a reason why the character has something like that (he / she / it is a "chosen one" or whatever).

If you think that's weird, you havn't met me. Every day my eyes change colour. With all seriousness intended, and yet I do not wear contacts and have perfect vision...

I love green eyes and purple eyes in games. As long as they don't clash with the hair of the character, I see nothing wrong. I especially like it in Q- TBV where the Aerians all have the same eye colour because they live in a certain place (continent, city) and therefore they see their selves as better than those with different colour eyes.
I think they have purple eyes.
