The Paradigm Template

While technically this has nothing to do with my template, I'm advertising it here because I can!!! And those of you who are following this might be interested in how I do pixel art (or so I tell myself).

Is anyone interested in something similar for sprites or anything else? Writing walkthroughs isn't that demanding, and I'll be happy to do more if people find them helpful. I'm sort of morally opposed to art tutorials, though, because I don't think you get much from learning how to exactly mimic someone else's style.

As for progress on this, um, nothing lately, but I might try getting a little done over the weekend. My mom is coming up here to visit me, though, so we'll see how that goes. Just checking in to let you guys know I'm still committed to tackling the to-do list in the first post! I'd probably have it done by now, but my school is pretty demanding, and I'm terrible at time management. :x If you see me slacking off on IRC around the weekend, poke me to do something useful.

Also, Sophie, if you're reading this, I haven't forgotten about Megalenin, really! D: (Note to self: still need to fix metal texture on upper body, make body/legs look more like Megaman armor, draw Soviet flag. Won't take you too incredibly long except for maybe the flag, so just finish it already!)

There are different ways depending on the image editor you're using. In Photoshop, you go to image > image size > 200% using the Nearest Neighbor algorithm. You can also do it in Paint by zooming in to 200%, taking a screenshot, and cropping, but that's more work. Also, note that it's generally much easier to do this after you finish a sprite than trying to edit it at 200%.

Hmmm, I should update this one of these days.

Eh, I agree but disagree. I think if you can have a script than its a good idea. That way if you decide you want the 16x16 size instead you can just remove the script.

Or you can open it in Paint, CTRL + W, and type 200 into the boxes, OR, you could CTRL + E, double the width and height properties, CTRL + A, and CTRL + + (The actual plus button), to double the size of the template, lol.

I've been wanting to comment on this template for a loooong time, but I wanted to sprite something on it first, I just never got around to it, I'll give it a shot sometime tomorrow (I could today but, well, I can't be arsed, lol.)

Oh yeah, how'd I forget about the doubling canvas and stretching trick? I resize things in Paint that way all the time, but lately I've been using other apps more.

I feel so stupid missing out on the one problem....:
It seems that there is a massive amount of space inbetween the characters in actual game but if I resize it the tile set it going....
And the size of 1.5 it so weird looking and if I fix it up it still doesn't look right....
I'm going to need serious help with this.... :eek:uch:
Any suggestions?

Er, you want 2x the size, not 1.5x. Also, I strongly recommend that you don't use this template with RTP tilesets. You want SNES rips or something also resized to 200%.

If you ask me, it doesn't need updating, maybe different skin tones etc, but apart from that, it's a really nice looking template and any "updates" should be made independantly by the users, and besides, that shouldn't be too hard, it looks easy to mess with, lol.

@Peri; Yup, the good ol' stretching tricks from Paint, heh. Like I said, I'll have a sprite on this template later on tonight, going out for my mates 18th today, from 1 till, well, whenever I suppose, going Paintballing, then having a chinese buffet, then going back to his house for hookers and blow, lol. (That's literally the plan of the day, heh)

But yeah I'll definately have a sprite on it :thumb:

- running poses?
- child template
- child poses

If these were done I will have a huge grin etched on my face telling how awesome you are for making this C:

C:

I am still eagerly waiting for it C:

Ineed you are right, lol, my bad I suppose, heh.

@Peri; Y'know when you next update this then, do you think you could add a sample pallette for it too ? I mean, I'm getting better at making them, but they still kinda suck bad, lol. Thanks ! :thumb:

I do have some palettes I've constructed for them, but they're not very good. I might edit them and post them anyway.

And yeah, not sure if I'm doing eight directions (pain in the ass), but I do intend to do a child template and some additional poses. I should, uh, do that at some point. If you keep after me, maybe I'll get off my lazy ass one of these days and finish this. :3
