To those who say it's exactly like Dreamfall: Dreamfall is a LOT like the previous title in the game's series :P...a LOT. (Has played both) both are excellent, but hey, games are going to be simillar...is this a reason not to play them? WoW is like a lot of other MMORPGs, but instead it has a base of 6-9 million subscribers and growing. Several popular games (Take Halo as another good example) take existing gameplay ideas, and even basic (and some even go beyond basic) ideas of the story and make their own thing from it. Halo 3's story is a dime a dozen, and its gameplay is nothing new or special...and yet you don't really see a lot of people complaining about it, do you?
To uzumakishade: Do you get paid for a job (ANY job) before you do any work, or after work is completed? Why should working on a game be any different? I can understand people wanting to ensure they get paid no matter what (this is where contracts and mutual agreements come into play) seeing as this is an amature community and there is a risk of not getting paid at all for time and effort/resources consumed...but I also think it's a little pretentious for people to demand money when nothing has been made, and before a contract has even been agreed upon.
Now, if the person has a history of doing exceptional work, always being on time with updates as to the status of said work, and has never bailed out on a contract, then I'd say they have more of a right to ask for payment up front. But to complain outright about the way they are setting up their system for payment is ridiclious and counter-productive. If you disagree with it, fine...but unless you're an artist looking for work in this project, there's really no reason for you to complain at all.
Artist are more than free to set up themselves in the classifieds/Looking for work section of ths site to ask for payment up front. Just as game makers have every right to (for a PAID project) to ask that those involved wait until the end for several reasons.
Look at how many projects on the site are NOT looking to pay those involved? Be thankful this is one of the rare ones willing to pay people for their work, not just ask for help.
I also may be a little biased, as I paid an artist upfront, but wasn't delivered the artwork I requested, and it took over 5 months to get my money back (Thankfully). Please look at both sides of the coin before sounding off like that.
