RPG maker VX?

The mapping and layering isn't limited. You just need to convert an XP tileset to 3/4 pieces and you'll get a similar if not the same result.

It's easy, just a bit of laziness for the starters. Also, if custom maps will be made, they'll likely be made like that. I'm just waiting for resources to come out until I start mine.

How's that gonna solve anything??!

It's a completely different system of mapping.

For example, RMXP was a different system of mapping compared to rm2003, but there were exclusive new resources for it instead of using former version maps.

I am kinda getting used to VX, I have no choice since I actually bought it. I think its kinda nice, I will give it an honest chance before turning back to XP if I am not happy.

Why is everyone all "might go back to XP"? You don't have to stick to one maker. I still use RPG Maker 2003 myself, as well as XP and VX.

Because that's retarded, Jirby?

If someone wants to make a game, they make it one maker. Not three different ones that can't be ported inbetween. How are you supposed to get any significant progress done on a single project by working on 3+ different makers.

Heh. Guess that explains why projects are so slow. :V

EDIT:
Really though, You can't stick with one maker. Different projects work for each. I might not always use VX, but I'm not giving up on it.

But what if you're not very good with scripts just yet?... I tried the trial version of XP back in December, and I am quite the incredible noob. I've been holding out on buying XP just in case VX is 10 ten times better, but one of the features I loved was the ability to add a bunch of tilesets... specifically, frankentilesets I smoosh together so that towns in an area will appear similar but have their own unique qualities as well. You say that there are scripts to get around the limitation of 5, but I have to imagine that for newcomers like myself, changing script is a daunting challenge. (And I make all my webpages in HTML, if that tells you anything.  )
As someone still on the fence, I'm asking what are the ADVANTAGES of VX? What is the advantage of having 5 tilesets and 2/3 layers? Why should I stick out another month or two for VX instead of buying XP right now?
You can use all 5 tilesets on any map, and it has enough tiles so that all your towns can be different.

Forgetting to mention the dungeon, overworld/world map, and interior tiles added. xD

If VX resources come out, we can always invent a tileset merger. But until some noob invents that, those resources will just have to come out of nowhere (graphic noobs).

I was thinking of making a XP-VX tileset conversion but I don't have the time.

I've been using VX for over a month, and I really like it. Honestly. With mapping so simple, I get a lot more of them done. In 2 days I managed to make as much progress on my project's mapping as I did in like 3 weeks with XP! And I love how visually appealing the default menu and battle systems look. The potential for really good, possibly longer games exists with VX. With the ability to create content so quickly, you can create a lot more of it. Mapping is actually enjoyable for me for once, rather then a necessary process I have to go through before I can get on do doing the fun stuff.

I totally agree that stuff is way too square though. Wtf is up with that? It really looks ugly, but I try to work around it. Hopefully someone will come out with some rounder edged stuff soon.

They didn't have their hands cupped over their ears while making VX. We birthed this monster. Now we must feed it! The best thing we can do is keep it locked up in the attic away from XP and tell him he's an only child. Its the most humane thing to do in my opinion.

VX seems to basic

I think that pretty much destroys all the other arguments in the thread -- No point posting here anymore, since this dude's said it all.

Sorry dear, that's your and his opinion and that's all it will be.
