256 is pretty small if you ask me, here's the tileset I used for the first town of one of my test games, it's not a HUGE tileset, but still it uses 44x8 = 352 tiles. so I couldn't use that tileset in the game, granted I could reduce it with autotiles and charactersets, but even If I could take it down to 256, it's just the tileset for FOREST TOWN, I don't want all of my towns to be like that, see?Diedrupo":1qlamhqr said:You know that you can put 256 tiles in one of those Tilesets right? Just don't waste tiles by making things that take up 2-4 tiles when you could just as well make them as charasets which can be of any size.

and I could use even MORE charactersets, but what's the point in having a tileset? I'm not saying it's IMPOSSIBLE to make good maps in VX just that it's a LOT more limiting, having to force your way around the limitations, which wasn't needed in RMXP.
