RPG Maker game gets $8,000

I have to agree with blue here. While there are many valid points of it being rtp etc, fact is, without a skeleton for your game you cannot build anything. Any game maker knows that you build with what you have, then you upgrade as you have ability. This particular user decided to go out and market for his game in a forum that he found. It is absolutely admirable that he actually was able to earn money for his dream to complete a game. Let them continue their project and when its released, then go ahead and judge.

What a lot of people here seems to forget is that...
He only asked for $1800
and got roughly 4 times that amount. He just got lucky!

Yeay for CrowdFunding.

For the people interested in those methods of funding here are some other websites for some other countries:

UK : Crowdfunder.co.uk
US Only : KickStarter.Com
US based but works for everyone : IndieGogo.com
France: Ulule.fr and babeldoor.com

Compare to the others, indiegogo pays you as you raise money. whereas the others, only pay you if you reach your goal in the given time. (else they keep it). If you do reach your goal, a commission is usually taken on the total amount ( around 10% ).
And you usually have to offer something in exchange to those who contribute ( special edition of your game, t-shirts, etc... )

Now.. in the end ; nothing prevents you to open a site to get donations for your project; but you have to attract a lot of attention by yourself :p

You can also try http://indie-fund.com/.
If they like your game - they give you money every month, but after releasing your game you must pay some revenue.
This fund was created by some great indie evelopers, like guy who made Braid, or guy who made flOw and flOwer on PS3. He also works on The Journey (google it, this game will be awesome) now.
