Random NPC conversations. What would you say?

Your post is made of win (it was funny silly)
Oh! Man do I feel like an idiot, didn't even know what that meant.

I wouldn't worry about it; its very much a 4channers expression, typically used in the context of 'Z0mg! This girl is made of win and sex!' or 'Epic legendary topic is win; have an internet for your troubles...'

Maybe in London that's true, but I have conversations with strangers all the time around here....just not fucking emos.

Huh, I'm not an emo, thank you. I'm quite a positive person, in fact; its just the unfortunate truth that most people would stare at you wide eyed or ignore you/back away if you just went up to them in the street and started a conversation on philosophy. So you don't. Its a social taboo, much like the british obsession with queing- people who push attract no end of stares and throat clearings until they realise their mistake.

Like I said, there are several exceptions to this rule. Like talk about the weather, or the idiocy of someone you've just seen. These are allowed at any time, with anyone.

Are you talking to me? Are you really talking to me? I can't believe you're actually talking to me. No one ever talks to me. I wonder why no one talks to me. i wonder why you want to talk to me....Mister? mister! Where are you going? I thought you were going to talk to me! *to an imaginary friend:* why do they always walk away and not talk to me?

Ah, Good day good sir. Let me interest you in a little sleight of hand. Now, examine this coin, notice how it is a regular gold coin, nothing special about it, but when I say the magic words, Please and Thank you, it disappears. but, that is not all. Watch this. *NPC performs various complicated hand gestures designed to distract* What is this? My gold coin is behind your ear. *Pulls coin from behind the ear* Thank you sir. Have a very pleasant day. *Walks away hurridly*

*Pary loses 50GP to a pocket thief and now feel foolish*

Wow, Secret of Mana flashbacks...

This is the last one I'm posting, probably not one of my better ones, either. I'm saving those for my game I'm making:

NPC #3: Oh, thank god! Why do you plumbers always take so long to show up? The clogged toilet's two doors down to your left, just follow the trail of water on the floor.

1st time: Hey.
2nd time: Ummm...
3rd time: Do I.... know you?
4th time: Ehh, I guess it doesn't matter. You like Final Fantasy?
-If yes: Great! Wanna see my collection?!
--If yes: Cool! Let's go! (teleport to PJ's house)
--If no: Aww. Alright, then.
-If no: Oh. Never mind, then.

I can't believe this actually is what I'd say to someone.

I would never start a conversation with someone in public, so seeing as the hero never actually says anything to NPC's (not right off anyway), I would say nothing.

Let's see if anyone catches this...

"It's said that there's a town of midgets that live in the forest just south of here..."

That's exactly what I would say.

People weren't always as cold and stand-offish as they are now. I think it makes perfect sense for people to greet eachother in the street, even if they don't know eachother. When you don't live in a huge, suspicios, metropolis, it's just being nice. Then they would start off a conversation about it. It's nice when games actually have the character say/ask something relevent to lead into it.

"It's said that there's a town of midgets that live in the forest just south of here..."

The REAL FFIII? And I swore I wouldn't post here again, but I drug myself back in since I realized none of the ones I did were outside.

NPC #4 (sitting on a bench with a newspaper: Hey, you with physically-impossible hairstyle and sword that could slice me in half with one chop, you're blocking my light, couldja move?

Try something along the lines of "Hello" or How are you?" (In ireland we say "How'rya") usually random people in the street (At least where Im from) just greet each other in passing.

Well if a stranger walked up to me, my initial response would be:
"Who the fuck are you?"

If I hadn't met them, but knew about them, I'd probably say something referring what I've heard:
"Oh, aren't you that guy who killed Sephiroth?"

Well generally the hero doesnt open the conversation, but if someone just walked up to me and stood in front of me staring at me, id be so friggin creeped out. Like, wth do you want? or if they looked like they wanted a fight, ankle-trip them and kick them in the kidneys. *cough*

It depends on what they wanted to talk about, really. Like if they wanted my opinion on a war, or if they could help me with a side-quest, or even if they wanted directions.

Have you ever played Might and Magic? I forget which one, but it's one of the oldies. Each NPC could be hired onto your party (max. of 2). It worked by giving each NPC a job, such as a carpenter, or Guild Member. But to get them ono your party, you had to convince them either by Begging, Threatening, or Bribing. They did have an effect on your fame, though. If you were well-known, then you could just talk to them.
