Official Contest! A New Beginning!

Lol, I hope it's okay that I use FFX OST for my game x-x. It doesn't seem to be against the rules. Correct me if im wrong, I dont wanna get disqualified for that XD.

Mind you, that doesn't count all the graphics/music that are practically a necessity to make your game original. You may argue, but most RTP games will be scoffed at, compared to those with custom graphics and all the rest.

When you put it that way though, it makes me feel better about making games.

Actually it does. The 1hr per 1minute rules includes all the material development, brainstorming, concept finalization, and such. The actual making the game work doesn't take that long.

Not calling you a liar or anything, but anywhere you can point me to evidence of this claim? It seems reasonable enough but I want to see if there are any real studies or statistics to back that up.

rexxzecutioner, I've read that that is a general rule of thumb across some various game development websites and journals, and RPG-Advocate swears by it tooth and nail. If you actually think about the amount of work that goes into making a game, I am sure it comes pretty close.

Haha. O ye of too much faith! Most of my work so far has been mapping for a team, so I've got very little experience in event creation. Look live, guys, at least there's one contestant you can beat!

Be wonderful if I had the time to enter but I'm booked with school, work, and maybe drivers ed. I wish I finished that one dungeon game I was trying to do a bit ago.

This whole rule about 1 min = 1 hours work is absolute nonsense. How can things be measured that way? Ive been working on the same game for over a year now. Sometimes i can do 10 mins of gameplay in like 3 hours simply by making a tough battle in a small dungeon. My games intro has taken well into 30 hours of my time with less than 5 mins to show for it because its so complex. To try and build a game like that is (imo) just asking for a rushed, untested, and boring experience that will yeild more bugs than quality game time lol.

Okay rant over, i appreciate people have to be more hurried for this comp

Total agreement.

And don't forget revising, Prex.  Working three straight hours, you have three minutes of gameplay, but then you'll probably have an entire hour fixing, testing, and revising.

So, then it appears that its 4 hours = 3 minutes.

which comes to some big decimal in terms of 1 hour = X

And what if the person making the game is bad at RPG Maker, or, frankly, excellent, and speeds up the process, or slows it down. Then we'll have around 4 formulas if we want this to be true, not 1 hour = 1 minute.

For a slow person, we would likely have:

1 hour = 0.60 minutes, or less.

For a RPG Maker master, like, say, Despain or soemthing, we would find ourselves with

1 hour = 1.5 minutes, or more for all we know.

My head hurts now.

So, there are multiple equations that can be used to find the result of how long it takes to work on a game, not just one.

Hence why it's a rule of thumb, and a general statement, and not a strict rule which everyone must follow. God, you guys are annoying.

Like the characters that are automatically loaded with a new game, the spells, items, weapons, animations, enemies, etc. Although it would be pretty difficult to have to make all of our own animations.
