Is there any way to ask a trivia question regarding the end of each game, and only count the votes of those who can answer each question?
Technically, on a poll, anyone can vote, but if we have a way to see which users voted... we could count by hand, based on the aforementioned criteria.

I'll create a wallpaper for the contest itself, and we could PM a link to judges for a participation prize...  Just a thought to encourage a higher number of votes.

Should we let competitors vote, just not for themselves?

people can easily cheat with public pols(there's a lot involved ya know), you should just let the the people who give away prices vote anonymously, that seems like a fair amount of people and they're going to be honest since the project that wins gets their price.

Like I said, I intend to do whatever I can to prevent people from cheating. That would certainly include at the very least IPchecking every voter as well as (if necisarry) discounting votes made from new accounts or accounts without posts (to stop people from saying 'hay vote for mygame' to people outside of the forums).

I'd prefer not to have JUDGES because I want games to be judged by the community rather than BUNCH OF PEOPLE. If the 'trivia questions' thing is going to be used I'll make a new account for people to PM votes to and count them by hand since a trivia thing wouldn't work with a public vote.

So I guess this is VOTE ON HOW YOU SHOULD VOTE or something. Give me your thoughts on how this should work :D

The major problem I see right now is that a lot of people will vote without playing the game. This could become worse as we get more entries, because most people probably won't be bothered to download every single game. And if someone makes a project thread they may be biased towards that game because they can actually see many parts of the game and if it looks good or not. To be honest I'm a bit against public voting because they tend to be more of a popularity contest, but maybe you could do something like where you perhaps have ten projects enter, so you judge those and pick the top 5, and then the rest of the community votes on those five for a winner. Or maybe when people vote for a game they have to do a quiz about it, idk, just spewing out ideas here.

What about putting a size limit on the games (~15mb or something), then taking all submissions, and combing them into a single zip, therefore eliminating the need to download a whole pile of games.

Also, why not get players to submit an uncompressed version of their game, and all you do is add a simple message at the end of the game with a code you've made up? That way the creators won't know the code and then have an account for vote pms like you said?

That's my suggestion anyway.

Peace

I like the trivia questions idea.

Like for ___'s game, you say, what was the guy's name who threw a snowball at Sally? Then someone PM's you their vote + the answers ...

Just a heads-up...

the RMXP-EVO expansion pack contains charactersets (including many for different actions) for;
Santa Claus, Deer (male and female), a Snowman (ice golem), as well as Wolves (white and brown) as well as at least two Snow themed Mega Tilesets.  Other usefull things may be in there as well, but these came to mind, offhand.

have fun and good luck.  I'll look forward to checking out the winning entry... or possibly taking part in the public vote.

(EDIT) oh, and i think there is a X-Mas present in there... that opens up like a Jack-In-The-Box, if not, just PM me and i can get you one.

If the amount of actual entries is low, like less than six then voting is appropriate.  Anything higher will lead to above mentioned problems.  You could also do a combo panel judging and people's choice.  I don't know how you'd divvy it.  Perhaps the people's choice gets one vote on the panel that benefits the winning game.  I dunno.

Also if someone stocked the place with twenty accounts and voted with all of them there isn't much we can do.

In my mind, one informed judge pronouncing him/herself alone on who DA best is will always be better than 100 people who vote for people they like.

Hope we don't see a repeat of that other contest

The deadline is around the 15th, right? Because I'm worried I won't be able to finish my game by then. I'd hate for all my work to go to waste, but school and work are getting in the way. When you say you'll give us some extra time if we need it, how much do you mean?

Up until about the 22nd, I suppose. An extra week. It needs to be playable before chistmas at the very least.

I sort of had my heart set on announcing the winner on christmas day but if people want extra time I suppose it wouldn't hurt to announce it after.
