New User Profile Pages

We are working on the front page. But that takes time.

So in the meantime Erk is looking into a few other things for the site.

While i don't have a link to the page at the top, i used the /z/Tdata to get in. Not too bad. I think ''Profile Neighbour' is by join date.

I guess it's sort of cool, but I really don't get the purpose of this. Shouldn't we be focusing our time more on making the main website than throwing in fun but useless "blingbling" mods?

Well, the thing is that this wasn't much work at all. It's just some mod, while the frontpage is something made from scratch. The only work going into this is minor modifications to fix little errors, like the interests box. Sort of like a passing fancy. I find it to be pretty fun to play with, and at the moment the lack of a frontpage isn't exactly killing anyone, since it just redirects to the forum anyways.

Oh and that thing about not being able to change the block colors is because Erk disabled that because he wasn't sure it did... something. I can't really remember. But if you'll notice he didn't disable it for himSELF, pink bastard.

Oh, that is a familiar one. Just a bit of extra whitespace in a php file probably.

the ?> can be omitted if it's the end of the file.

http://www.php.net/manual/en/language.basic-syntax.instruction-separation.php
Note: The closing tag of a PHP block at the end of a file is optional, and in some cases omitting it is helpful when using include() or require(), so unwanted whitespace will not occur at the end of files, and you will still be able to add headers to the response later. It is also handy if you use output buffering, and would not like to see added unwanted whitespace at the end of the parts generated by the included files.

How do I send a pm via the new profile pages?

**EDIT**
Nevermind. I just found it.

Suggestion: It was a little difficult to find the message link to pm a user because the text was plain and didn't stand out. Perhaps this could be made more noticeable somehow.

I liked, but not much. Looks somehow strange for me, seen that i´m familiarized with the old CP (that´s far more organized and straightforward). Not that it isn´t a bad idea, but i think it should be better organized.

Well, seen that the staff is adding new contents for the site, here i leave my suggestion: What about a function in the .org that permits users to create new project pages? Like, each approved project in New Projects can have a special page in the .org, where the leader can add/modify stuff or news, and where people can offer/request help. You could see that project page through "My Projects" (not My Project) in the new user profile, and maybe that could have a Main Project Page or Search, or something like... This project must have a leader, and that leader can invite new people to participate. The leader may invite a member just once, and if not accepted, they must ask permission for mods to invite that member again. Once in the project, those people can gain titles and jobs (just illustrative), and a status that can permit them to invite/fire members (or other cool things that just don´t come to my mind right now ^^). That project may have groups, like Sprite Group, Music Group, Writing Group and so on, and each member can participate in multiple groups, depending on the Leader´s desire. Members can head more than one project themselves, and can participate in other projects too.

I have a lot of ideas in my mind, i just can´t organize them very well and throw them here ^^. I think that this utility would fit perfectly to the way you make that new profile page (even because My Project is simply useless, for what i could see right now xD).

Well, not a bug report, just a suggestion. If needed, i can organize myself better and post a decent idea presentation lol

Linkin, throwing out ideas is fun, but look at how long it takes us just to find someone with the skills and time to make a website. We just can't make giant custom systems.

I'm looking into ways to make this system more appropriate to our needs. The main advantage I already see is that users who want more direct management of a project topic, or request topic, can post it in their profile discussion page. These pages are user moderated, so while I and other admins (maybe mods too, Ihaven't checked yet) can go in and moderate them, the person in charge of keeping it clean is you. If you don't want any criticism of your project, post it in your profile and link it in your sig. You can delete anything you don't like, and ban people you don't care for from reading your discussion pages. I haven't explored this too far, but it's intriguing. I will be looking into more content like that for the profiles.

I'll be adding a link to profile from UserCP, and do note that anyone can access a user's profile by clicking on their name in the sidebar to their post. I may add another link to profile somewhere in the post or postbit, but I haven't decided yet. I don't want to do too much until I know if I want to keep this system.

I have allowed users access to the skin function: it is pretty secure, just a weird graphical CSS editor. Have fun making wacky colour combos.

I am talking to support about getting Editgroups, the Links page, and the avatar/images working right.

Well, sorry for disregarding that fact, but i was not throwing up random ideas... That was an idea that i had for some months after seeing several uninteresting threads in the Projects Forum, but i just didn´t have the audacity to put it here in Feedback (because i knew about that fact, but the new CP just encouraged me to do so). The idea is not bad (even the overall idea is not soo complicated), the problem is the implementation, indeed. Maybe something apart from the Forums could do the job. I´ll take my time (if i get some) to try implementing it.

Seeing from that point of view, it´s indeed a neat possibility, and i´m sure people will like it (like me ^^).

I rather prefer the skinning system for VBulliten itself, but this is pretty nice, and you can share them! I made one that goes along with the Death Wish skin, because white and black isn't too hard to incorporate

Five PHP errors occurred for my profile page. Quite odd, but they look like whitespace errors.

Style editor is still a bit buggy. You can only apply changes after you select a color from the pallette; if you manually want to enter a color, you have to select a preset first and then enter your own color. Font updates don't seem to work at all. I tried setting my headers to Arial Black and it wouldn't let me.

EDIT: okay it will let me change it, but I have to save everything, go out and then go back in to make any more changes.

EDIT2: nevermind, it's updating in real time, but it's just very laggy. I was too impatient except the main block headers still won't change size, fonts style, anything but color.
