As far as classes, I don't try and be uberly creative with the names I just try to keep things simple and basic, relating the class name to either the character's actual "job" in the game, or their role in battle. Only time I ever get extravagant is if it is a higher class, and mixes traits and abilities from another class, wether it be a subclass or something entirely different in general. Even then, I still try to keep it as basic enough to still be descriptive.
"Mercenary" - Strong fighter of military experience, works for whoever he wants
"Priest" - Has healing abilities, strong against unholy and undead type foes
"Vigor" - Origionates from Shining Force, a person who heals and boosts party stats and moral
"Pyromaniac" - Obsessively uses Fire based attacks, but not by the means of magic
"Pest" - Shifty attacks, makes a great decoy as it has high health, defense and evasion
"Gunslinger" - Quick when handling firearms, not great at hitting distant targets
"Prototype" - Machine (or cyborg) type character, created by man with destructive fighting abilities
"Bandit" - Alternative term for "Theif", the character that would have Steal/Mug type commands
"Sharpshooter" - Great at hitting near and distant targets, so long as they're not too quick
"Acrobatic" - A unique arial-based style of fighting, quick and stealty they are
"Mechanic" - Naturally tough due to work ethic, strong against machine-based enemies
"Mage" - Specializes in different schools of elemental magic, such as Fire and Wind
"Sorcerror" - Can capture dead souls and use their special abilities
"Necromancer" - Similiar to sorcerror, can summon and manipulate said captured souls
Of course alot of those, as you see, are very basic and descriptive class names which you can literally find in the dictoinary or thesaurus. Matter of fact, you wouldn't even have to look through your own dictionary to guess what kind of role they play in battle and what kind of abilities they might possess, you might even have your own idea of what said character would look like in your head just by reading the class name, yet they're still interesting and mysterious in their own ways.

naming things is fun, though. I'd be content if I could just name things all day long.
