Okay, next person's post I have to delete because you people don't understand the meaning of "stop beating a dead horse" is going to be smat.  Last warning.  He knows he fucked up.  Give him a chance to improve.

Forgive me for this, Atemu, but I don't see anymore posts which are "beating the dead horse". Every post that I saw, after your last post. All of them were in regard as to how he could fix his problem with character names. Which he had asked for help with. I don't see which post(s) you think should be "smat".

That would be because I deleted them, Lummy.  Mods do that to spam.

no, i've just heard that some of my ancestors were complete asses. (bad pun that doesn't make sense!)

i'm working on a second game now, and would like to post a screenshot, to see if you think my mapping has improved. question is, how do you get screenshots? also, how do you make it so that the dialogue has a little window above it showing who's talking, and a picture of speaking person?

Guys, you call doing all that horrid stuff to the guy critquing? Editing the screenies on his game, and saying sticky bits is horrible. Heck, i'm frightened to submit my own now! :)

LOF, the name box and message feature is a script, there's a guide about it somewhere, on what scripts are and how to use them.

To make screenshots press the "Print Screen SysRQ" button on your keyboard, it should be there. Then press Ctrl+V in Paint.

you mean autotile 022? it just creates a sandy looking thing. is that it? why would the roof be visible anyway, this is the interior.

Try looking at the interior screens at the screenshot thread, you'll see what I mean.  I'm tired right now so I can't do up a quick demo.

Also: less is more in RMXP.  The minimum map size may be 20x15 or whatever, but you don't need to USE all that space.  The roof tiles give you an illusion that there's nothing around the room you're in.

oh, and also, is there a code on hand for the FFVIII "caterpillar" style of walking? where the other party members follow you? i found a link on a different website but i didn't work. also, how do add the characters name and picture to a text box. say that the character's name is bob, and the file name for the pictured is "bob's mug.PNG". what code would i use to put the name and picture in the text box?
 
Actually...you use the autotiles called wall01, wall02, or wall03
You use them like this:
I used wall03 in these examples.

Don't repeat that wall tile from the tileset so much..it just looks...weird. Use the autotile.

Heres another example I made for you...(just an example)
If your going to make walls like that, then they go like this:

See that? That's how you use them.

And as Atemu said, don't make your rooms so big.

yes, but make sure to make the floor all the same...It would be dumb to buy all the wood for the floors, then throw in the random wood wherever you want :) Looking MUCH better LoF

A lot more realistic, and maybe even convincing that the people are sleeping. There is an RTP sprite set that has characters playing dead, sleeping, just down. Its near the end of the list when you are looking to make a graphic for events. GL! the numbers are 189-192
 
I can smell the map errors.
Reposition some of those books to more sensible places, such as a desk, I wouldn't use the same wooden floor tile everywhere, I use the plain wood tile and then put those other ones on the floor randomly, it has a great effect.
The shelf in the bottom right bedroom goes on a wall, not a floor, and there is probably too much open space in the centre of the map. For some reason mappers on RMXP.org like cramped buildings, that doesn't mean more ornaments, make more rooms and experiment with the body of the building, making the walls circular and push out into the open space with corridors between rooms.

also, if you'll notice, there is a little layer that is see through, right where the sleeping character's neck should be. how do i fix this?

i also made an alternate version that is a bit more cramped. same problem with the sleepers, though.

oh, and just going to clear this up before someone informs me of it, i know that there is a gem in the bottom left hand corner of the bottom, right hand room. if you examine it, it says "it's a gem that dad found while he was mining. he let me keep it." though now that i think about it it might make more sense for it to be on a table... as for the books, the main character was studying a lot so it makes sense for them to be on the ground. he just hasn't cleaned them up yet.

You forgot to add the wall under the autotiles in the middle.
Your map has improved loads in no time at all! Well done everyone.

Post that into the Script Requests forum and someone will link you to some scripts.

looking better! I hope you've made it so all your teleports are TOUCH based and the player doesn't have to press the action key to make it work. that was another problem.... and pick up those books btw. kinda odd just randomly laying there...I'd understand if you had a pile of books. looking good!
