Mapping in VX

But wheres the flare? :O I can make a map just as good + better (basically transform that into a RMXP map and spice it up ((ALOT))) in only 7 minutes =[

>_> That would take WAY longer in XP, the map would have to be bigger considering the trees are massive in XP, there would be less room, and it would look overcrowded and pointless.

Actually I don't think it does have a fog layer anymore.  No doubt people will say that's a good thing again though.  All features removed / downgraded are positives.

pictures are much more flexible than fogs.

and the lens flare was a joke against people who think throwing a random overlay on their maps makes them better.

god you guys are oblivious to sarcasm

^that last sentence was sarcasm

^that last sentence is also sarcasm

By the way, are there new commands with pictures and etc.? I'mean I know that the old ones are enough for anything but, just wondering if they made anything easier. Haven't had the time to try it out yet.

Edit:
Oh, the sarcasm toward people who does that is clear, but that still would've made sense if you thought that he did, which is a separate account altogether, which was what I was covering me butt with.

The picture commands have their own wait for move completion which is pretty good, actually it's really good but other than that, not that I can see.

Marcus, I agree in most cases but they aren't very good for repetitive scrolling fogs if you use them in that way.  I hadn't noticed the fog layers absence until Reives mentioned it.  I don't think fogs would go well with the rtp but it would annoy me with custom graphics.

I also got the sarcasm.

That's what I was wondering. The only way I can think of having a diagonally scrolling fog right now with pictures, is to use 4 pictures (or 2 for horizontal and vertical), with the old picture commands. There might be smarter ways though.

How? You still have the two layers (you don't have to use the 3rd if you don't want to), and all the tiles are there...

Oooooh right, because everything in VX is an autotile now? Autotiles everywhere! Definitely makes it easier to draw squares and rectangles! Never mind complex structures which lose depth due to the autotile's inability to have independent shading on things such as cliff indents and L shaped houses unless you use duplicate autotiles which would then just use up space and cause confusion...

And yes, everyone who has ever touched RMXP will use the fog layer for useless lens flares. No one has ever used it for anything useful like swamp fogs, mist, shadows, cutscene effects or anything that would add atmosphere to a map especially if the map used custom tiles.

Yes I am aware of the sarcasm, and yes I am aware that RMVX is a good program, but at the same time; 1. I can be boringly sarcastic too, and 2. VX will have n00bs too.

Perhaps when RM3k comes out, we can all look back and group all VX members into little groups in a sarcastic manner completely ignoring anything creative made with the program just because 3K brought back movie file support.

Mapping's not so hard for me in this one. I used the Sample Maps project that came with the download to look up on how something should look, and then I try to make it better in my project. And as a result, my interrior mapping in VX has gotten a lot better :) .

Just wait and you'll be surprised or wait for the next generation of makers.

The next generation in maps is straight up panoramas.  Tiles are old hat.

It's true! I think I mentioned it before but that's definitely the route I will be taking when I get around to trying something serious.

I wanna make maps that are realistic as hell (even for fantasy games) I'd like to see faceset generators made by entebrain same has char generators and tileset generators with an option to preset directional passing and all that other shit HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Id be in heaven then... that's what stops me from moving beyound preset graphics and tiles

P.S. OH YEAH I FORGOT TO SAY THIS BUT IM LAZY! and I can't keep to some games for too long

After having played with it a little I have to say, while the VX RTP is miserably ugly, I can see a lot of potential  in having such a huge number of auto tiles. If (and that's a big if) we artists can learn to harness the new tileset specs, we can probably do some really neat stuff with it.  the one tileset per game limitation sucks, but perhaps it can be overcome with clever scripting.

I dont like how there is no really easy way to change your title and game over screen like in RMXP "click this to change your title and game over screen"

Both programs have their advantages and downfalls...

I persnoally find it WAY easier to map in VX, after you learn a few tricks to it, mainly that large groups of things look good ^_^

It is a different style of mapping, and it doesnt take that long to learn.  The world map tiles are awesome though, I made a huge map that would of taken me several times longer to create in XP.  Sure it doesnt look "real" but that is the style of it ^_^

Since the "academies" are coming back, and I am working on some stuff for it, I will be making a few assignments with RMVX (for those who have it)

It took me a while to get the interiors down, but I think I almost have it...  it definetally is simpler, although I still miss the layers...  but them again, it does it for you, which actually makes it a lot faster to map ^_^

I am working on a short game right now useing RMVX.  Something that I would encourage others to do if you are unfamiliar with the program.  Just start with something simple... like a 1-2 hour game, so that you can learn the program.

In just 2 days I have finished the world map, 5 of the 18 towns and after the mapping is complete, then I will start writing it and eventing the whole thing...
But yeah... I did that with RMXP when I first got it, and it helped me a ton!

Although I deleted it a few months ago... It helped me learn how to use it, but I was embarresed to have it on my computer ^_^  (it was awful ^_^)

Anyways, cheers!

Go to the Resouce Manger and import them into the System folder as Title and GameOver.  Voila. :)  This took all of the first 2 minutes in the program for me to figure out :/
