Linux game maker

Does anyone know of a simple game maker which will run on Linux, that would allow me to make a game in a short space of time, preferably with it's own graphics? I'm looking for something along the lines of RPG Maker or Game Maker, not particularly sure what I'm after, just wondered if anyone's picked anything up in passing that I could try out quickly.

Why don't you get back into programming and do some Linux programs with C and GCC? It would be a good way to spend your time and you might learn something new.

Linux doesn't have much out there, SDL is very much a rockin' cool library for Linux and Win32 programs, most Linux games use SDL.

Good point. I'll probably end up doing something along those lines anyway.

I personally would suggest C++ using Allegro (and the Boost libs if you need sane STL alternatives).
Allegro offers less rendering functions than SDL, but learning to use OpenGL directly isn't a bad thing (opens up, quite literally, complete freedom in how you want things to look)
