you can't use that as your proof that it's okay to use foreign alphabets.
the japanese have been using english as part of their vocabulary system for over 50+ years now, it's necessary for them since it's part of their way of communicating with the outside world (because english is a language used around the world, not just in america/england/australia). putting english words on things (such as the super mario world cover) is pretty normal to them, especially since they can read it with ease.
on the flip side, nobody in america/the western world uses japanese unless they are talking to a japanese person. therefore it is downright indulgent and offensive to use japanese letters and text on your game's cover when your game is 1) not japanese, 2) not made by japanese, and 3) aimed at a non-japanese audience. you're insulting the japanese and you're insulting your own culture. why put text on your cover that most people can't read? it's offensive and disgusting.
