Hmm... People butcher the English language on a daily basis and make up the most bullshit English names but I don't see a thread complaining about that. PM whoever did it or post in their thread, I really don't see the point in ranting about this.

I only used Japanese/Asian languages as a reference point, since I'm most familiar with them (after English). It goes for ALL languages and, for that matter, all subjects. The point of this post isn't to rant, it's to get people to wake up and learn to do some research.

^.^
I'm Asian, but this never bothers me at all.
In fact, I know Japanese and did some research before using their language. I even
use Japanese suffixes, because it's cute. But I totally agree with you in some point.
It's like stick to the status quo. But it's kinda boring to stay on one, we should explore
others things too. This just what I think. Please respect it and I respect yours. It's just
the amount of respect.

Paalam <<< You said we should use our own language. ^.^

People are free to use whatever they want in their games. Just like people are free to mock them if they find something humorous or offending in said games. So just keep that in mind when you decide to sprinkle your game's english dialogue with random japanese words.

I guess that could be annoying if I cared about shit that doesn't matter. Judging from this thread, and your sig...you are a person that thinks he knows whats best for everyone else. As if there's a "correct way" to be creative.

People use foreign text because they want their game to relate to that demographic. Thats why when most people put J-Text in their titles, they do it because they are trying to make their own little "j-rpg"; its not hurting anyone nor is it annoying, so whats the point? Its all in fun. Im siding with Arb on this one.

Also, japanese games (since they seem to be the basis of this argument) heavily use english text in their titles. Like you said, look at Final Fantasy. The primary text is in english, followed by the j-text.

This seems more like a rant than a discussion.

super_mario_world_bros_4_japanese_b.jpg

This cover makes me feel good inside. Maybe its the colorful letters? Maybe its the picture of mario. Who knows. All I care about is how it plays. It looks fun. It might be. I think ill go play it now.

you can't use that as your proof that it's okay to use foreign alphabets.
the japanese have been using english as part of their vocabulary system for over 50+ years now, it's necessary for them since it's part of their way of communicating with the outside world (because english is a language used around the world, not just in america/england/australia). putting english words on things (such as the super mario world cover) is pretty normal to them, especially since they can read it with ease.

on the flip side, nobody in america/the western world uses japanese unless they are talking to a japanese person. therefore it is downright indulgent and offensive to use japanese letters and text on your game's cover when your game is 1) not japanese, 2) not made by japanese, and 3) aimed at a non-japanese audience. you're insulting the japanese and you're insulting your own culture. why put text on your cover that most people can't read? it's offensive and disgusting.
