If you could only make a fan game

Also, I think I could make a better Sonic RPG than both SonicTeam and SEGA combined.
First of all...exploration and interactivity would be key as a gameplay element as their key in most modern GOOD sonic games. Another...Mario could pull off RPGs because they focused on jumping and adventuring, which Mario did well. However, Sonic is about speed and action...RPGs don't do speed so well, action somewhat. So...ditch the default turn based system, and instead use an XAS battle system. This allows great empasis on speed and action without losing the feel of RPG style battles!

Sonic Chronicles, made by BioWare, it's actually a really decent game if they removed the Sonic characters, since he doesn't suit RPGs and should stick to the good ol' fashion platformers...
 
I would like to make Resident Evil fan game with action placed in Racoon City just after infection. Playable characters: Barry and Rebecca (side characters from first RE).
 
Mass Effect Chronicles of course! :D

I absolutely love the Mass Effect universe and the games were great. Having more than enough experience with RPGMXP, I decided to start the project up about 6 months ago and it's really taken off.

Seriously, ever since I started toying around with the RM's I've always had a tendency to make space-themed stories. Using the pre-existing fantasy template just didn't sit right with me, so naturally, this fan-game is something I'm very excited about. (Can't wait to let you guys play the demo in a month or two ;) )

I'd make a Shining Force fan game. Sort of a sequel to Shining Force II(Sega Genesis). I loved it and played it several times over. I'd use VX, as the graphics on XP are a bit creepy for my taste(and I think VX would fit much better for this game). "Maybe" I'll even make one "some day", but currently I'm working on a different project, (not that I work on it much).

I was also thinking about Secret of Mana series (Especially Secret of Mana 2 - Seiken Densetsu 3(SNES)), but I think that the Combat system would be very hard to Simulate with a Rpg Maker.

You probably haven't come across this thread yet then viewtopic.php?f=11&t=36855 I think it's only for XP tho, but with anything you don't need to use XP graphics just cause you're using XP. Infact you should custom if you can.

As a matter of fact there is an ABS for VX, and maybe with a lot of effort/patience/scripting knowledge you could create a similar game to Secret of Mana 2, but unfortunately, I don't have any of those.

I was also considering Phantasy Star, 'cause Phantasy Star IV - The End of Millenium(Sega Genesis) is one of the EPIC-est games EVER (at least in my opinion.). :)
 
Snatcher all the way.
All time favorite adventure game. It'd be kind of easy, to be honest, but it would be hard to make a snatcher game thats NOT a remake.Then again, the ending of Snatcher left PERFECT room for another leg on Gillian's adventure as a JUNKER considering he leaves for Moscow at the end.

I've never really thought about a fangame before, what with Square being nazis and all. I've always just assumed all of the companies are like that. I'm pretty fond of the psx-era Breath of Fires myself, it would be kinda neat to make one with a style similar to 3 and 4 with reworked gameplay and a redone story.
 
Maybe something about tales of eternia/destiny 2 (ps1). That was one huge-ass world, honestly, and the many features and aspects of it would definitely be interesting to copy. Battle system and the zillion easter eggs were awesome.
 
Interesting that all the responses seem to be related to existing commercial games.

The 'fan-game' ideas that I've come up with are all related to other media.

My 'pet' project being a sequel to my favorite fantasy novel. (not telling) :scruff:
There are, of course many books that could be adapted to games (LoTR, Elric saga, HHGG, anything Lovecraft-ian, et.al.ad.nauseum)
Movies (Excalibur, Reign of Fire, Never ending story, AoD...)
I've also considered designing a system based on popular pre-digital-era p&p (paper & pencil) games like P&P (Powers & Perils), Call of Cthulhu, Shadowrun (anything but D&D)

Sometimes you gotta 'think outside the x-box' :grin:

I remember watching someone play the X-box game, Call of Cthulhu.

Whenever I watch a certain movie or read a certain book, and I like it, I want to turn it into a game. XD

Lately, I've been craving remakes of certain games.

As of late, I've been craving a remake of Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession, if not just for better controls and the idea of creating your own portrait.

I'd probably want to make a fan game of Doom, though. Though, I'd probably created too much story to go with it. >.>

Or of Final Fantasy Tactics, where your just a squad member and not that important. :D
