Graphics - prices

I think for an rtp sized tree, it cost 20 bucks. Which to me is a lot more than I expected at first, but when I thought about it, it made sense.

If I ever wanted to go the commissioning route, well, I'd start saving some money somewhere...

For my part it takes me several hours due to lack of experience to produce something of a quality I'm happy with. I think I'd have to charge about 70-80 USD for it to be "worth my time" but that's not economic for the buyer. If someone with experience could put something like that together at, say, $15 a sheet it would be viable for mass distribution. You could charge a little more for requests and a dev could reasonably get all the sprites he needed for under $1500. If you planned to commercialize the end product that wouldn't be much of an investment at all with an expected gross of around $20k, even considering other costs.

I cant believe you would pay that much money for a game people will never buy.

Infact i think your crazy to even think of paying someone for RPG Maker sprites.

Only if you aren't good enough to turn a profit, which is roughly 99% of the people who get into this. A hobbyist with no expectation of a finished product or no desire to charge would be crazy, but for someone serious about it its a really smart buy compared to profit sharing or having someone on-staff. Art isn't cheap if the art is worth using in the first place :)

guys, just learn how to sprite. thats free. seriously. the only thing i thing you should pay for are scripts and music. and i mean like composed music.

@the urchin: i bet many people here on rmxp.org are pros, but they do rmxp for fun. its moreso a pastime if you ask me.

Spriting takes time, if you are making a game, you can't be stopping to creat a sprite or tileset.

Personally, were i to charge for sprites, rtp styled about $10, HK about $15, Tilesets would have to be by the hour at around $7/hr .

Me, once i'm done with the little details i'm going to hire a few people to help me with one of my games that i plan to sell. I know it will be costly, but i expect to end up in the black, so it isn't so bad.

I have one of those freakish minds where I've searned how to script, but if I learn how to sprite I'll forget how to script. :)

I'm doing the rest of the game - like a lot of the scripting, tilesets, events, quests, storyline, etc., and it just happens that one person is not enough to make a good game. And it also happens that it is hard to find anyone who will work good for free.

Off topic:

If you're Right handed, spriting occurs on the right side of your brain and scripting occurs on the left.

Or at least it should, for the best outcome.

On Topic: Time is an issue for people. I would expect to find more spriters prepared to work for less in the summers, as so many of them are young and don't attend school.

That doesn't include some of the elite spriters, though. Tana and Ccoa for example, SK too.

It's safer to find a good flat-rate spriter, in my opinion.

*yawn* I map for free or a very small fee... Time well expect that you get the maps in a little of sched., hey I have a life and I need to hangout with my friends. Money Shmoney... *yawn*

I know you can't always get something for free but hey, if you look hard enough you might get something and harder to get the good ones ahahaha
I think that didn't help....
You can get something for free but don't just be too demanding. =D

This has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Please pople, stay on topic or I may have to close the thread.

I would like to say on this matter that i turn to recruiting by paying an individual for their work right now i got a great artist working on my team i have great respect for his work and him in gerneral ;) well i am paying him decently i believe and it is worth every penny =) its close to 20-30USD per graphic image, custom sprites 10-20USD per sprite (not 100% sure as of yet but will be close) I'm paying 200USD for a custom song composed and sung by a local artist and band. Im paying a writer Wendys cause she is a realitive and goes to college just for that so she will make sure my story has no flaws =D so recruit family might help some on cash. . . unless they like my cousin and loves the chocolate shakes lol well anyways the animation is pricy lets just say you dont need animation to make a good game but im using it it is so far like 450USD for full anime style opening and ending. . which is not certain yet but is the estimate i was giving im looking for a scripter so if you can script maybe drop me a message =) back on topic im also got someone doing in game music and sound effects (SE's are packaged by 20) for only 5-10USD for each file i might even consider voice actors. . .>. > basically if you want profit you better have good ammount of cash to make a good game . . . i mean no disrespect but be serious give people something to admire and love and look at your creation and be inspired and when you do make money back you get alot more out of the outcome of good critiszm and feedback!

( i hope i stay on track as much as possible i put this up to show examples of payments and such i am paying out and maybe people can see what they might be getting into =) please dont hit me with a stick if i went slightly off topic ='( )

Oh and to those who said RMXP is just a hobby, I don't see it as just a hobby, I personally see it as a way of paying for a decent university =)
I see rmxp at the moment as a hobby, only to waste time if I'm bored. Perhaps, if I get good at mapping, I make a thread at the classiefieds.
