That's a good point...it is still said that Windows 2K is the most reliable (then again, I get my info by researching the OS-Tans...they've already started designs for Vis-tan, Vis being french for "screw" so they're putting plenty of screws on her).
Even though at first glance it just seems like a graphics whore's dream (I myself am a graphics whore, and I simply LOVE it's new interface, or what i've seen of it so far anyways), but reading into the official website there are some specifics that may be improvements, however small they are (some of these improvements beign quite helpful):
-Improved security (well, they all say that, but i'll give them the benefit of the doubt this time).
-Search features for the start menu and also for specific folders (good if you have plenty of charactersets and you need to find a specific one without having to treck through all the ones that start with Imageshack code)
-It's own virus scanner (I think) which can track viruses and delete them before they're installed on the computer. This will of course need to be updated, and if a new virus sneaks in before an update, it can also track and delete virus already installed.
-You can view a large thumbnail of any file before opening it (this could mean the whole first page of a document, a slightly smaller version of a picture). Keep in mind this is for ANY file, not just images, making it easier to find the document you're looking for.
-You can search for specific authors of a file, and also for specific words inside a document (so you could search for any documents written by Marry Poppins which has "Supercalifragilisticipsiallydocious" written). These searches can be saved as individual files, so you can go back to them later to look at the results again, or to look for new files that fit that criteria.
- If your computer needs more RAM, instead of buying more RAM and installing it yourself by unscrewing your base unit and such, you can now plug in a flash drive and tell Vista to use that as extra RAM. It is my assumption that modding companies will take advantage of this and make large RAM packs you could keep plugged in your computer (and knowing them it'll have an extra slot for inserting yet ANOTHER pack...it's inevitable, you know what modding companies are like).
I know this could be considered just repeating what they wrote, but i'm just saying these are points some people should consider about Vista. Even though it's alot like XP in terms of how it runs, it's at least very pretty, organised, safe (?) and user friendly.
But like alot of people, i'll proberbly still have XP for a while after it comes out due to it's possible price tag (it WILL be expensive, I can tell ya that), and there is also the fact that we'll proberbly either need to:
A) Mod our computer until it looks like a reject from Star Trek.
B) By a Star Trek computer.
Either way, tis gonna need alot of power.
Off Topic: Speaking of OS-Tans, tis about time someone tried making some OS-Tan rpg sprites.
