HBGames

I have been coming to this site for quite a while now, but I never bothered to register since I rarely post in forums. Until now, I never really had anything to post about. Anyway, I have been working on a fantasy novel for the past few years and have always entertained the idea of one day putting it into an rpg format. I have done a lot of research on the capabilities of the different rpg makers (95, 2000, 2003, XP, and VX. NOT sphere, game maker, etc.) and decided that XP would suit my purposes best.

I already know that further down the line I will need to seek out additional help on the project, but for now I want to do what I can alone. Since I am taking it from book form and making it into a game, the story and much of the dialog is already available, leaving the creation of the visuals and sounds as my main priority. With this being my first game, I will probably end up making everything much harder than it needs to be.

I do not yet own rmxp, so I figure that I can work on the parts of the game that do not require the system itself to create. In this case, it is the sprites. I will be working on the main characters first. Since there are five of them and not the standard four that I see in most rpgs, I was thinking of going with a tactical battle system with additional allies coming and going throughout the story.

I am brand new to spriting so I figured I would go with a standing (idle) animation first as it seemed to be the simplest.

This is Luna derived from a cat-like race called the Lithen. She is not the main protagonist, but I wanted to make sure that I could properly obtain her look in sprite format so I went with her first, though now it seems a bit counter productive to choose the simplest pose and follow it with the hardest character to sprite. Anyway, I referenced about five different sprites and did so much tweaking that I am not sure if you can still figure out which sprites that I referenced anymore. Even so, do to the size and style, I am sure some of you more experienced spriters can figure it out.

I know there are a lot of flaws and that is why I am posting this. Just do not bash me to heavily. Areas in particular that I am iffy on are the tail animations for the side views and the back view. I think the front view turned out pretty well. All in all, I think I put in ~18 hours on this (Way too long in my opinion, but it is a learning process and it is my first sprite.)

I look forward to any feedback!
