My point is that they even did a crappy job of portraying the message. That's not romantic at all. (a) He didn't tell her that they were basically screwed... a lot of people like to know when their life is in danger (b) It suggests that killing himself and most likely injuring his girlfriend/wife/whatever was more romantic than thinking properly and avoiding the whole issue altogether (c) Yayy protect your loved ones except he was driving so if anything happened to him, there's NO chance of him being able to steer them to safety (d) He was too busy telling her what to do that he couldn't focus on umm... saving their lives (e) He realized that his brakes didn't work and did nothing to save them both...
I could go on for quite some time. Point is, if you're gonna try to teach a lesson, teach it right. These are terrible lessons to teach.
"Let passengers in your vehicle distract you, imparing your driving"
"If your vehicle has difficulty, driving into barriers will slow you down"
"Getting a hug is more important than your life and the safety of others"
"Never tell people when they're in danger"
"Never try to get assistance when you're in danger"
It also teaches a bit of sexism. He's the male, he's gotta handle the situation himself... but noooo she's just a little vulnerable female, she needs the helmet. And don't tell her about the problem because her opinion isn't valued and she'll just end up panicking and making it worse.
Wonderful lessons it teaches.
So yeah it may teach that you should love your... loved ones, but it also teaches those other things... in a morbid way! Wonderful story this is! :D
