Awareness Episode One (Complete)

Just a small request: could anyone who's played the game confirm the "bug advisory", that is, has the game been crashing at start up if the included fonts are not manually installed?

It crashed several times in a row when I first tried the .exe, then suddenly started working fine after I ran the .rxproj in RMXP's tester.

I love your game Milo but what the frick? The end came right as I was really getting into the game. I won't inquire into what personal matters forces you to cease production but awareness really leaves you hanging off a cliff. Still the game carries an air of professionalism the whole way through and as a stand alone game it is still fantastic. Not that it doesn't have its shortcomings.

Obviously as people stated the presentation of this game is it's strongest appeal. As far as visuals go, you used original tilesets that look real good in game although some of the maps were very sparse. I am not sure if that was because they were not finished or not. The use of the particle system in this game is the best I have seen yet and it gave the more dramatic scenes a much bigger impact. While most of it is eye candy, I wouldn't mind learning some of the tricks you used.

The story is also very strong which is important since the game lacks much gameplay. The whole blend of fantasy and history didn't rub off on me too well at first but you soon learn that the historical context isn't that important. The samurai character really feels out of place though.

Dialouge is above average though it still sticks to some of the RPG cliches like the character that stutters around pretty girls. Personalities are decently fleshed out considering the game is fairly short.

The weakpoints of this game are the dungeons (or lack thereof) and the battles. The dungeons are pretty standard walk to the end and pick up items along the way fair. They would of benefitted from some puzzles or anything to differentiate them from all the other dungeons out there. The battles were also extremely bland with the old man being ridiculously overpowered compared to the other characters. They felt like they were just thrown in there as an afterthought. Fortunately the excellent ost made them bearable.

All in all an excellent effort. If another episode DOES come out sign me up as a beta tester cause I want to see more of this series. I hate to see wasted potential.

I am well aware the sound track is not all original. I recognized some of the songs but I couldn't tell you their source. Anyway original or not the sound track is solid. Let us all agree to that.

Yea, the endgame didn't turn out exactly as I hoped. I was going to include 2 more dungeons related to resolving the "What the heck is at Via Aurelia?" plot point, but I wasn't able to finish in time.

P.S.
Oh, and, about the soundtrack. I just want to make clear: regarding the naming convention I used, I wasn't trying to take credit for music I hadn't composed by not using their original names. It's just a lot easier when making cutscenes if song titles are deliberately descriptive.

(im taking a break, I'll try to maintain mirrors one and two though. will be back)

Um... I think I'd love your game more if it didn't almost crash my system? O_O;;

Seriously, I got as far as the pretty flowery speech... and then the game crashed and took out half my desktop.

You need ogg vorbis codecs.
I dont know why not having .ogg support crashes computers, but it does sometimes.
Look up "ogg codec" in google, and download it. You'll then be able to play ogg files.

Ahh... Ryan, I have a OGG codec, not to mention practically every codec for media known to man. If it's music or movies and it doesn't work on here, there's something wrong.

Corrupt file? I'd delete the one you have and download it again. It might of just been a random thing (RMXP does that sometimes).

This game is beautiful... reminds me of Chrono Cross (my favorite game ever ^^). I presume the music is milo's finest?

For a guy that left? Hahah
No the art isnt his, I recognize it from various sources including Mark of Kri(which had fantastic art).

A double post and an unwarranted bump! All I want to ask Aran is if you prefer lethal ejection or the electric chair?

But it is good to see this game not lost in the library of forgotten projects. One of the most professional feeling games I played on this forum.

@Despain: I bumped it to ask a question.

@ryanwh: Zunk you!

@ArtBane: Good question. I'd like the chair of electricity with a slab or ribs...
But yes, you are right. Unfortunately mines worked only the first time I downloaded it now I keep getting the Auto-Font-Install bug error-whatchamuhjigger so I can't savor its beauty any more -_-

Aran for one Milo announced his leave not too long ago...so why would he answer your question.

The file is unencrypted I think so you should be able to remove auto font install.

All in all it was a pointless bump...
