Embarrassed?

Anyone embarrassed about buying/playing pokemon games? To some extent, I am. While with close friends and people who understand it better, I am not. Even though I go by the philosophy of "the games are just awesome rpgs, while everything else in the franchise is crap", a lot of people just lump the whole franchise together. That being said, it seems everytime I go to get a pokemon game there is a hot girl behind the counter (like the one fucking time in the year theres actually a girl behind the counter at gamestop), and she usually looks at me funny. I know what she's thinking and it kind of makes me die inside ;_; Anyone else have similar experiences?

I've never been embarrassed about buying or playing Pokemon games in all the 12 years I've been playing them vOv

It helps when you have a lot of friends that are self-admitted Pokegeeks and when you go to buy the games with other people. And I bet a large amount of the people that are buying B/W (25-50%) are 15 and up. Nobody's ever given me funny looks for buying Pokemon because there's a 24 year old in line behind me with the same game in his hand.

Yeah why should you be embarassed? I mean, do you REALLY care what someone behind the counter who spends all day judging people thinks about you? By the next day they probably forgot your face and what you bought anyway...

I've never been embarassed to buy any game or item or whatever, lol. Infact I'll be buying Pokémon Black sometime soon (I've had a Pokémon White ROM since the English translation of the JP version was released, want to play a proper English version and not Engrish where some things weren't translated) and I won't give two fucks what the people think, besides, if I buy it from Gamestation, the lass behind the counter (She's 22) plays it too (I went in on Friday and she was playing it while no one was being served) so we'll have a nice conversation or something lol, nerd it up while some "Mature" guys behind us are waiting to buy Bulletstorm or whatever meat head game they play...

I haven't bought it yet probably for that exact reason but I feel the same way, Necrile. :x

It's p silly considering how well the game appeals to all ages just through sheer depth of gameplay but something about it feels awkward.

Let me ask you a question moe: Will you feel awkward going into a store and buying Catherine when it's released? Assuming you buy it instore and not online, lol. I mean, I'd give anyone weird looks if they had the case in their hand, lol, well, not in a "What the fuck is that person doing with that game?" look, more of a "Lol they're actually buying a game that revolves around sex and dreams about sheep... cool!"

plus it looks 10000x better when there is an adorable 20-something girl buying Pokemon than a 300-pound guy wearing sweatpants and covered in cheet-o dust.

considering you're in that store for all of two minutes and nobody in there will remember you for the rest of your life it's not even an issue really! it's not like they're going to see you on the street and go "hey! that girl bought pokemon! what a NEEEERRRDDDD"

i will guarantee 100% that out of all the hundreds of customers they deal with in a day they will not make the time to formulate an opinion about you. i interact with tons of people at my job and a lot of them are disgusting/rude/assholes but i am usually too busy to remember who they are or even care NOW GO BUY POKEMON JESUS WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR

Oh yes, I was planning on getting Catherine through the mail if at all possible. It has the most incredibly awkward box art that I would never want to be seen in public with.

I'm never ashamed. I tell people and my Pokewalker (before I lost it) was attached to my backpack, which is almost always on when walking due to that I can't break my high school habit and it's damn useful (especially in medicine). A few of my friends play pokemans, but I just go and buy the game when I feel like it, not when they are around to make me feel better.

in short, go buy pokemans, and have some self confidence. :D

I'm more embarrassed when I have to pick up a WoW game card for my brother than when I buy Pokémon games. That, and the fact that I've known the one girl who works at the local GameStop since we were freshmen in high school, and I know she is an incurable game nerd, certainly help get me out to the local store. The best part is that everyone who works at the local GameStop actually knows what they're talking about when they talk about games, since for some reason the local office made the incredibly good decision of hiring actual gamers, who are willing to pick up just about any game. They've made so many good recommendations it's not even funny. It's too bad that most places aren't like that.

My local GAME store didn't know what Neverwinter Nights was

Best thing is they had a display for it!

Anyway, embarrassment: well, I was too embarassed to join my local TCG league I guess, but that's different to playing the handhelds.
